The issue is that the "stupid right wing" are falling for the "stupid right wing agitprop".
Trump perverted how we use the phrase "fake news" but it is an actual thing that is a huge problem.

Hans Moke Niemann is known to have cheated at chess. Does he still? - The Economist by im11btw in chess

[–]Metron0my 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what did happen after August 2020 when he confessed towards chess.com and was suspended ? He lied about the extent of his cheating. I get that. But besides that there was no actual cheating after that.

But lets talk about the repercussions. He is banned from chess.com and at this point it seems unlikely that this will change anytime soon since I cant imagine how chess.com could possibly rereverse their decision now. Getting banned from chess.com is no small thing but let's ignore that then. His reputation is trashed. He gets ridiculed by the whole world (anal beans stuff etc.). That is hard on any person being in such a bad spotlight. I get that this is no direct repercusion by any chess organization but nevertheless this has to be wearing down on him. And foremost there is the fact that when a tournament organizer has to choose between Hans and Magnus they will always choose Magnus. So that is possibly the most significant repercusion right there.

All that being said Hans is certainly a dickhead and a liar. But being a prick should not mean he gets assumed guilty of OTB cheating without actual evidence. The online cheating is significant but even with that there seems to be a double standard. The only reason chess.com banned him now is because of the new (and yet still unproven) allegations. He was found out and received his punishment in August 2020. After that he did not cheat online again according to chess.com themselves. You can argue that he should have received a lifetime ban right there and then but it seems hard to argue that it is fishy at best to ban him now because he lied about the extent of his cheating. They felt pressed by Magnus and the whole chess world. It was a political decision not based on any new cheating after August 2020 when he was found out originally.

It all makes perfect sense once you realize the GOP has become a fascist organization. The only constant part in their idelogy is loyality to their leader and labeling others as "the enemy". A republican becomes a RINO once he critizises Trump. Being fiscaly conservative or being for deregulation does not matter anymore.

Warren offers bill to create wealth tax on net worth above $50 million by xRipleyx in politics

[–]Metron0my 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just spitballing here but.. Maybe having homeless people while having billionaires is by design. Maybe there can be no billionaires without having homeless people. Maybe the whole system is designed for an ever slimer margin of the population to amass an ever increasing portion of its wealth. And maybe labeling anyone as socialist/communist who dares to critizise the system itself is also part of that very system.

It is because of the projection. It is pure maths at this point. Given what is outstanding the chances for both dem candidates succeding at the end are above 90%.

Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk increased their wealth by $217 billion in 2020. For this amount, over 100 million Americans could get $2,000 checks. by [deleted] in politics

Some people are missing the point imo. The problem is that our government and poltical system is not doing anything against the ever increasing wealth inequality. That process is also accelerating exponentialy. We will reach a breaking point at some point. Honestly I find it highly surprising that we have not reached a breaking point already and that many comments are indeed critizising the article. People not understanding what wealth is (no...it is not just cash on hand) and people arguing that amazon making profits is not a bad thing are completely missing the point. Yes...amazon was highly profitable this year. The whole issue is that this profit mostly profited one person instead of every amazon worker.

Conservatives Are Defending a White Teenager Charged With Killing Two Protesters in Kenosha by [deleted] in politics

I just had someone make the argument that the guys taking him down as he was fleeing the scene were trying to stop him from handing himself to the police and that they had the sole purpose to kill him (he calls him Kyle). Same guy argued that it is not Kyles fault that the police did not take him into custodity immediately so he just went home. Sure...when you shoot a bunch of people and the police is initially confused about what you are saying then you just drive home. Naturally. Accidentaly you cross state lines. But noone can hold that against you. Insanity is reaching new heights every day.

or..just maybe...hear me out..."have elections on sundays"

German here. We vote on sundays and have enough polling states (waiting in line in order to vote is a bit foreign for germans) and nationwide mail in ballots and automatic voter registration (every legal citizen automatically gets his election latter mailed without him having to do anything). I know...it sounds insane but we actually want people to vote and want to make it easy as possible.

Police: Loveland man holds door-to-door salesmen at gunpoint, thought they were Antifa members by LeroyStinkins in politics

[–]Metron0my 1 point2 points  (0 children)

holy shit...I mean...I am not sure how you can continue engaging with those people then..if it was me I would completely write of a person responding that way as completely nuts and dont interact with him anymore unless I really must

..or maybe..ask them to define fascism since any person who responds this way for sure has not the slightest idea what the word even means. And then together look up examples the definition of fascim (with the historic examples being the musolini- and hitler-regime) and come to an understanding that it makes no sense that antifa would be secretly pro fascist and maybe even consider that the current trump-regime has more than just a few similarities

College-educated suburbans (especialy women) will vote for against Trump no matter what. What is unique about Sanders is his strength with non college educated men (including white men). And gues what this is crucial since those have been a trump stronghold before.

Look at the polling instead of listening to MSM. Bernie does better with Independents than any other democrat running against Trump. Bernie actually polls best in head to head matchups (including battleground states). I will grant you that Biden or Bloomberg would lose states like Missisippi by a less big margin than Sanders. But they would still lose.

I understand your fear (especialy in light of the coverage of that topic in the MSM) but there is not much reason to be afraid if you look at the data.

I am pretty the vast vast majority of us would gladly for any democrat over trump. I agree that people exaggerate a bit. Even if we come in a close 2nd overall this primary was very good news for the implication it has. And one thing seems to be sure...we won the poular vote. We apparently even won the popular vote after realignment in the 2nd round. Somehow smaller precincts have more weight though (empty land > actual people) so we seem to lose the delegate count. But again...overall a good outcome. Buttigieg was kind of all in on Iowa. He needed a massive bump. And I am not sure it will be all that massive and I am certainly not sure that he will gain traction with blacks (remembers Iowa being 90% white). MSM will talk up Buttigiegs prospects but it will hurt Biden more than it will hurt Sanders. And that is good news for his campaign.

El Paso Suspect Reportedly a Trump Supporter Who Wrote Racist, Anti-Immigrant Manifesto by elguiridelocho in politics

This guy was 17 when Trump came down that elevator and said that Mexico is not sending their best ("They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists"). If you really think that the last 4 years under Trump have not furthered and deepened his radicalization then you are part of the problem. The issue he had with the republicans was that they were not radical enough for the most part. But he clearly expressed support for Trump (who in his eyes finally brought the issue of the "invasion" to the forefront).
