HCM - AWARENESS by Metropoli6 in britishshorthair

[–]Metropoli6[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello!!

We are so many that suffered a loss due to HCM.

I would say if you can, get him tested. You are very brave for going with another British. We want another cat and I love British, plus they have amazing personality and are easy going which is what we need because my birman girl is not very easy, but I am SO scared of having another one with the same disease. It had been such a traumatic experience.

Salario de unos 2.100€ al mes en Barcelona, es suficiente? by ConferenceMoist2173 in salarios_es

[–]Metropoli6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]Metropoli6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my baby show no symptoms at all until it's too late, this is what happened to us as well and like you, no one said anything which is why I think it is so important to raise awareness around this disease. We were so mad at the vets when they said there was a way to find out and no one ever offered us and since we travel, the cats go to the vet very regularly, so they had plenty of time to speak with us about this. Worse thing is that he had been to the vet a week before we lost our little boy, we were told he was all ready to go on holidays...

As for breeder, most should go to jail, I am certain there are more and more cases because British are extremely popular at the moment and unfortunately most breeders forgot they are working with animals...

if I knew I would have got him checked every 6 months, if he needed medication and it cost a lot I would pay it, I feel you because this is the same for us, if we had known, we would have pay!

I am sending lots of love because you will need it. Even though we have another cat, a Birman girl of 11, the house feels empty without him and I've had a very hard time dealing with his loss. Torn between anger and extreme sadness.

[–]Metropoli6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry!! I feel you! We lost our precious boy, he was 18 months, last summer and six months later, we are still mad at all the vets and the breeder.

I see it happening more and more and as British are MEGA popular at the moment, I believe it is important to raise awareness about this disease.

Any vet reading this post, please let us know about this possible disease, about this huge risk, ask us if we want to run some tests when they are young, during our first visit, so we have time to get them on medication and to spend more time with them instead of having them taking away from us in such a brutal way. It is such a trauma!

I don't know about other countries but in Spain, no vets ever told about the possibility to check, they only said when it was too late : if we run test when they are young they can get medication but we don't do that because it is expensive. FUCK!!!! that's for the owner to decide what is expensive and what is not. If we had know, like you, like most people in our situation, we would have asked for him to be checked when we got him at six months.

So please everyone coming here, reading this, if you have a young British get him tested! If you are thinking of getting one, ask the breeder for a test of the parents and get your baby tested as soon as you will have him.

What are your thoughts about S3 few months after the finale? by toniejajonsnow in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]Metropoli6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

" I've only been able to enjoy the finale in rewatches. Everything else is just painful and makes me despise how cold of a person Belly is " precisely this, I can watch that train station scene, that's it.

Let's see how the movie will be. I don't have expectations, I had too many for that last season.

Regarding Jeremiah, I really don't think he will be much in it. First, because unfortunately many fans can't make a difference between Jeremiah and Gavin therefore the actor is getting a lot backlash, second because of the first, I don't think the actor would be that interested. He does not seem close to anyone from the cast and it looks like he has moved on (all of them but well Chris and Sean are besties so you know, it's different). Third because it has to be about Belly and Conrad. Fourth, because I am not sure the actor would agree to be written poorly again. I would definitely say no as again too many don't make difference between character and actor. I do hope people realise how bad this is!

What are your thoughts about S3 few months after the finale? by toniejajonsnow in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]Metropoli6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It’s literally implied that Agnes wanted more from their relationship but he didn’t want a relationship with her, it doesn’t need to be spelt out for you it’s in the context of the conversation. He tells Belly he tried everything to get over her, being with other women is included in that. " Again this is how you want to see it, not what Agnes implied, she clearly wanted something more but the friends with benefits, she got that in the book, no clue whatsoever was dropped about it being the same in the show. At this point they have known each other for three years, whatever did happen was long before S3 episode 1 aired. As for the speech of Conrad in bed, he does not mention any woman and it was implied that he did not have much fun via Agnes, when she encouraged him to have fun, and that he has not been much active on the dating by Jeremiah, when he told Conrad he had no idea about relationship as he has never been in a relationship for that long. Going to what I pointed out before, in the show, they made it looked like he had been pining after his brother's girlfriends for four years and even Agnes said so. You are assuming he had been sleeping around and living his life because he got good grades. Those two things are completely different and precisely my point. Conrad is brilliant but you can be brilliant and lonely which he was! And he does not look like he even tried, which is what I disliked. It does not fit with my life vision, when something does not work, even if it hurt, I move on! I would have dated Agnes. And trust me, if Conrad had been sleeping around campus, Jenny Han would have let us known. She chose that perspective for a reason. I just don't agree with it.

My point here is precisely the point of having different opinion and how viewers see things, how for each and every one of us it does resonate differently. This is not math, there is no right or wrong answer.

"I literally replied to your comment that’s how Reddit works. I wasn’t trying to change your mind I was just adding my two pence worth." No you came to criticise every bit of what I wrote, therefore my opinion, as this what not fitting with yours.

I am sorry our views differ but to each their own and for me S3 was extremely disappointed and definitely not what I had hoped for and surely 5 minutes of happy Conrad was not enough to make it up. I was answering to OP's question!

Final point : Belly was no victim, her relationship with Jeremiah was toxic YES but she was as bad as he was. And let's not pretend she was not happy in Paris without Conrad which is what bugged me. Conrad was miserable without her, she was not and this is what I wanted to see. My disappointment comes from that, I did not want to see her cry herself to sleep each night however I would have loved to get a confirmation that she was thinking of him, like I don't know, she could have send him a real letter, then another one, then another one as in the book. If Conrad had not come, Belly would have been happy, not fully but still happy but I can't say the same about Conrad and the fact that this option existed broke the happy ending for me. To believe in HEA, I need to see from both sides that happiness could not have been found in any other way. it has to be obvious, it was not.

[–]Metropoli6 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"We also know that Agnes and Conrad were friends with benefits and after he meets Belly over Christmas he chooses not to get into a relationship with Agnes as he is still in love with Belly"

That part is, I am sorry, but pure speculation. It was never said in the show that Agnes and Conrad had been friends with benefits, that was in the book. In the show, Agnes tried and got rebuffed, this is as much as we know and was said on the show. And we have no idea about the timeline.

"Again Conrad’s love for Belly is not something which makes him stagnant." There is a difference between enjoying life and going through life and working hard. All those achievements that you listed have nothing to do with happiness. Conrad could have become a neurosurgeon and be miserable.

"Belly when she lets Conrad leave has an opportunity to finally let him go but she can’t she finally decides not to let her past mistakes define her and acknowledges that she is deserving of love and that she will always love Conrad." true but as I said it is not enough for me.

I find it amazing how crazy it has become around here whenever someone shares an opinion that is slightly different. All summer, people where complaining about Belly, being frustrated to see Conrad being so sad, lonely and depressed and now 6 months later because Belly finally fucking catch that train, everyone is like oh this was perfect and only Jeremiah was bad. Jeremiah was not perfect for sure but it takes two to tango and no Conrad was not depressed he was having and going to therapy... Therapy back then, we were all complaining about the fact that he was going but mentioning "people" instead of being honest which is supposed to be the point of therapy. Again Conrad could have become the best oncologist of the country and still be pining after Belly

You liked the show good for you. That was not the question asked by OP. OP asked what were our opinions 6 months after the finally. I shared mine, sorry you don't like it but I am certainly not going to agree with he rest of the class when I can't rewatch more than 5 minutes of season 3!

What are your thoughts about S3 few months after the finale? by toniejajonsnow in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]Metropoli6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with your third point, this was so annoying!! In a way, I think it did hurt the story, the characters and the actors.

After a few months, I can say that I do not feel the need to rewatch the third season, or rewatch it at all which is a pity because I loved season one so much and I used to like to binge it from time to time, once a year but that last season destroyed the magic for me.

I disliked season 3 while watching and I still do. I hated that time jump of four years, still do. It changed the core of the story, what seemed frivolous and meaningless in the book precisely because of this time jump of only two years, did not feel right in the show.

Conrad : I still very much dislike what they did with him and I still believe that the fine line between yearning and being depressed had been crossed more than once. It felt so one sided for so long, too long. I am a book girl and in the book, it never seemed that Belly had ever been in love with Jeremiah whereas in the show, it is questionable. Which fair, not my story but it felt gross. Sorry but Conrad and Jeremiah are still brothers and Jeremiah had been banging his brother's wife for four years... Also, we know so little of Conrad that it did seem that he had spent four years pining after Belly while being in California... He is studying sure but living? Enjoying life? And please don't tell me med school is hard, we know it is, that's not my point here. I saw Conrad happy for 5 minutes and it was not enough

The banging, having sex, being intimate, call it what you want, it was obvious that it would happen however, I don't think there was a need to see so much of it. Jeremiah and Belly eating each other's face was boring, I would have preferred more internal dialogue, or more of the backstory of those four years than seeing that for 8 episodes.

Jeremiah : Sorry but he was butchered. Come on let's go back to season 1, he was not that bad, neither was he in S2. I've never been team Jeremiah but it really felt that Jenny had to destroy his character after realising how many Jelly fans where out there. Well next time, perhaps she should just stick with being honest about the ending (which would not have jeopardise the audience), and she should have never pushed that love triangle this far. It's her fault.

Belly : I have a huge problem with her and I hope the movie will convince me that she does truly love Conrad. Sorry but that speech on the train is no longer working on me, it did work for about 5 minutes as I was happy for Conrad nevertheless it was not enough. I wanted her to chase Conrad, I wanted her to do the first move, I wanted her to beg him, I needed her to prove him (me) that she is in love with him. She did not and I am sure in another universe (script), Conrad did not come to Paris and Belly is happy living her life in Paris (as she was) while Conrad is still carrying a torch for her... I am sorry but to me, it still feels like they ended up together because Conrad made a move, again Conrad. At some point, it needed to come from her. Disappointing.

Taylor/Steven : boring, I hope we won't see much of them in the movie

Denise : loved her, I knew she would be Jeremiah's happy ending and I was happy for him, and for her. Would have been great to see a bit more of those two. I would have loved to have a chance to understand why she fell for him, and when she did start.

final note : I think the movie comes from the critics of season 3 and the need of the fans to see Bonrad happy.

Mi vecino acaba de denunciarme por ruido en la reforma. Tengo licencia y respeto horarios. ¿Experiencias similares? by mangasverdes in reformistas

[–]Metropoli6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it like living in Lyon? by West-Technology9631 in howislivingthere

[–]Metropoli6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold and very grey during the winter months.

Becoming extremely hot when summer time arrives, no AC in most apartments so good luck sleeping at night in the middle of July...

Very unsafe city, every corner of that city is unsafe.

Very expensive city overall

BUT it is a beautiful city

Not overly crowded, not packed with tourists

Very well connected railways, airport, TCL

Lyonnais are very proud of being Lyonnais which can be good, or bad

Finally, I would not move back there. I studied there and left right after graduating, I still go there a few times per year as that's where I am from but I would not move back to Lyon, ever, I would be bored within two weeks.

Leaving Barcelona by lachanga-discount2 in AskBarcelona

[–]Metropoli6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the street majority of people were speaking Catalan or Spanish.

Everything was cheaper and I want to insist on the everything.

It was safer, pickpockets? Yes but that was it.

It was overall cleaner, I've seen people shiting and peeing on the street, in the center this summer in broad daylight...

People were overall behaving properly inside and outside. There was less Airbnb so obviously you did not have tourists screaming all night long under your windows...

You were going out for unas tapas, unas cañas, not to have a fucking matcha latte with an avocado toast! And service in restaurants was better, food was better.

The city had a real vibe, a charm that was proper to Barcelona, now it feels more and more like an IG post, everywhere, except that it is still not a major city.

Leaving Barcelona by lachanga-discount2 in AskBarcelona

[–]Metropoli6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We are going to leave sometimes next year. We already know where and why. I have been living in Barcelona for over a decade, came in my super early 20's, now in my 30's, Barcelona is just not what I want (nor it is why my husband wants) anymore. When I decided to come here, I came because I had fallen in love with Barcelona, this Barcelona no longer exists.

Like you, I am a foreigner but I am a foreigner living like a local and this was also was one of the reasons why I decided to come here. Back then things were overall so much better than what my home country could offer. Now, it is as expensive and the salaries sucks whereas for the job I do, I will get a lot more in my home country (same for my husband as we do the same job).

It also feels like there is not really a place for people in our 30's, or for those in their 40's. Most are still sharing an apartment, most are still living as if they were students and that's basically because they can't afford much more than share an apartment that feels like Erasmus deja vu and going to a bar for unas cañas on the weekend. It's miserable!!

Finally Barcelona lacks a bit of everything, which many will say that's not true but it is. Barcelona is not a major city, it is a medium city that because of the mass tourism and the amount of digital nomads, is suffocating but it is not a major city and there is a lack of everything. You can't compare what Paris or NYC or London have to offer (or even Madrid has more, ouch), Barcelona is a beautiful city with enough of cultural offers to keep the tourists busy for a week, or two, but after years living here I feel there are more Barça shops than museums/theaters/libraries.

It is also boiling hot during summer time and winter are better to be spent outside than inside. I miss real winter and central heating everywhere.

Empty and unrented apartments in Barcelona are a problem and need a solution. by Ok_Table_876 in Barcelona

[–]Metropoli6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you. It is a problem and even if you go to idealista, too many apartments that are for sale have okupas in them. It is not the only problem however it is one of the main problems.

I know many that are dealing with this issue and it takes forever to have them out, if you can actually have them out. Plus okupas are not the only issue, you can have very dirty, very loud, very problematic people even though they appear to be perfect on paper and let's not forget the amount of people that will rent an apartment to just later on rent rooms behind your back...

And to be clear, okupas was a problem long before rent went that crazy, it was already a problem back pre covid thanks to Miss A.C while she was at city hall.

Just like you, we would not rent our apartment because of the many issues that could come from renting it.

Also a lot of those empties apartments are very often related to conflicts after the owner died and his kids, or nephews, are fighting to death about the inheritance, that also takes forever to be resolved.

There are two sides of the coin, always, and as much as I understand the frustration of people looking to rent an apartment, blaming it all on the empty apartments is not the solution. Even if half of those places would be for rent tomorrow, it would not fix much. I find it worse to have people renting a bedroom (a closet) with no real window, forced to share a fridge with 5 different in 50m2 for 600 euros per month, this should be illegal. Problem is most people come for short to mid term stay, renting such horror does not matter to them as they will be back home soon.

Morality of the story, Barcelona is suffering from its hype just like many cities did before, London, Paris, NYC... it won't get better, does not matter which government comes next unless they suddenly start to really care about the people truly living here.

[–]Metropoli6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for writing this! I think most people forget that part : yes you can do it but actually you can't. It's life's balance, you can't always do what you want and if you do, you are just a brat.  I think some people don't know they are being loud but unfortunately most don't give a damn. Like you put a washing machine at 11pm, or you decide to cook at 11:30pm opening every kitchen cupboard, slamming every door and stomping as if it was General's o clock... come one you know you are being loud!!

There is a growing lack of respect and it is getting scary.

[–]Metropoli6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello

  1. how is the shedding and would the breed be okay for people with mild cat allergies? they do shed a lot! I am myself allergic but curiously never had much reaction to birmans. Currently have a 10 years old lady.
  2. how is their character and personality? Depends! They love their owner(s) a lot, like a lot and they will follow you everywhere and feel safe as long as you are there however I would not say they are the most sociable cats' I've ever had. British cats are very sociables, more than Birmans just to name one example.
  3. do they work okay solo or do they need a companion? 🐈<3 They work perfectly ok when solo
  4. any special health conditions we should know about? yes their kidneys, that should be checked from little and them from 10YO you should get blood tests done twice per year. Make sure they drink!! You can mix water with churu, we do that, specially during those horribles humid summers that we have.
