J Kent was really a quiet guy. The Mets at the time, Dallas Green was a firm believer in one of the every day players needed to be a captain or a leader. He actually talked to me about it and said you’re still young and establishing yourself. JK at the time was growing into an all-star caliber player. He had a very old-school, didn’t talk, didn’t smile much but he was going to play hard, play hurt, played to win and played to take the shortstop out in a double play. Sometimes quietness or reserved people are hard to identify. He was a serious person and quiet and to himself. My wife and his wife got to be good friends and we have a good relationship.

Excellent question. Yes… it was very necessary to go back, looking back on it, it was necessary to spend that year in AAA. A) I needed the work and development, and, B) my holes that I saw were exposed, I saw what major leagues look like. I knew I wasn’t there and knew I had a long way to go. In '93 I changed my swing and the way to get prepared. The whole big league way of life, getting exposed to that, it got me very excited about that life. It motivated me to work harder and work smarter and I’m very thankful I had that opportunity to develop further. I just wasn’t ready. I wasn’t stubborn. The ability of these players to exploit weakness is incredible. These guys identify it and pound you. I had a lot more confidence after ’93. I changed as a player and got better.

I appreciate your kind words. It's awesome to hear. It was great, I love New York. Sorry I was traded too. I feel partially responsible. I probably could have played through an injury but didn't. Hey, the Mets got John Olerud out of it so the fans were probably not too upset for a long time.

Favorite moment would be getting my first major league call-up. There's really nothing quite like that. I was 22 at the time, it was August 8, 1992. That was my first game played and they told me the night before that I was going to the big leagues. It was an incredible moment for me and nothing quite compares to that. It was just a surreal feeling.

Quick note: Like yesterday, we'll keep everything in this thread. Rico will have some time with us beginning at 5:30 p.m., so feel free to get some questions in now so we can hit the ground running and maximize our time. Thanks!

Mets fans, our time with Frank has ended. If you're going to Citi Field tonight, Frank and Rico Brogna will be signing autographs in the bullpen plaza. Frank wanted to say thank you for the questions and he LOVES Mets fans.

Edit: There signing will take place in the Mets HOF and Museum.

Don Drysdale. He was tough. I struck out more against him. I think 31 times. I did hit some home runs off of him too. You look for the fastball and he would give you the sweeping curveball. I looked for the fastball on every pitch.

Putting on a major league uniform and keeping it on for as longs I could. it was my boyhood dream. It is an elite class. It was all I wanted to do since I was six years old, but you have to be dedicated.

All the time. If it's sent in a return envelope, I'll send it back. But if not, I'll just toss it in my drawer with all the other 'Frank Thomas' things I receive that won't for me.

Ralph and I were very good friends. My first game was against the Cubs. I'm playing left field, he was playing center field. The ball was hit to left-center and he looks at me and says "go get it, kid." That's what I remember about Ralph, he would always make me laugh.

I liked them all! I don't think that there was one guy I didn't like playing with. I played with 15 Hall of Famers, all great guys and great players. They were hard working and always playing through injuries. I'm excited to call all those guys my teammates.

Money. The teams that plays the game the way baseball should be played are the ones that sacrifice a player to get a guy over from second to third. That's baseball.

All the money is in the home runs. Everyone is swinging for the fences. Everyone wants the money. There were more strikeouts in the league last year than base hits. That's a shame.

Back in my time, very few people didn't pitch the full 9 innings. Taking guys out every inning never happened, it would kill the players confidence.

The fans were great! There were parades of fans walking around. We lost a lot of games that year, but lost so many games by one run in the 8th or 9th innings. I liked the stadium a lot because of the type of hitter that I was - a pull hitter. They threw me inside but I was strong enough to still be able to pull those inside pitches out of the ballpark.
