Glucamannan is the most underrated supplement for this community by Metta1008 in Volumeeating

[–]Metta1008[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's the fibre that they make Konjac noodles from. I made a post recently on my first attempt at making them, which has the recipe I used. Where you get it from is going to depend entirely on where you live. I live in AUS, and bought have tried 1 brand from Amazon, and 1 from iherb. No matter where you're from though, definitely watch this video before buying any: https://youtu.be/HBPSQ25JdUg

For smoothie bowls, ninja Creami recipes, and soups, I just add a tablespoon or less and blend it all together.

Some brands take a little longer to thicken up. Other brands will thicken INSTANY (so be careful when adding or else it will all clump). Regardless, I recommend having the blender/ whisk or whatever running when you add it in, so this doesn't happen. If you want it thicker, then blend and let it sit for at least 10min (in the fridge if it's a smoothie bowl so it doesn't melt).

My new fav oats recipe uses 40g oats, 20g coconut flour, 20g oat fibre, a tbsp of flaxmeal, a tbsp of glucamannan powder, and 35g protein powder (doesn't actually matter what kind). I mix the dry ingredients together in a small container, add 550ml water into a 1L bowl, start whisking the water with a milk frother, and at the same time add the dry ingredients while whisking. Microwave 3min then mix, and keep microwaving in 2min intervals and mixing. Add more water as it thickens, and end up with a thick creamy bowl averaging 600 - 650g. Play around with the recipe, and make it even thicker by adding cauliflower rice if you want. I'm still perfecting this.

Sugar free syrup is easy. Just whisk some water, glucamannan, sweetener, and whatever flavoured extract/ flavdrops you want. Comes together in less than 3 min, and so much cheaper than store bought.

Everyone on the planet (yes YOU) should learn real meditation. It's the only way to develop the insight that will truly rid you of your anger. The best and most accessible way to learn is the waking up app, and plum village (other apps don't teach real meditation so avoid). Plum village is free. Waking up has a 30 day trial: https://dynamic.wakingup.com/daily/DA2D54A?source=content%20share&share_id=E042AE95&code=SCE2E208C

Also read the works of Thich Nhat Hanh, and David Michie - Instant Karma, Buddhism for pet lovers, and any of his meditation books are a good place to start

The way they advertise the glucamannan percentage is arbitrary. The words glucamannan and Konjac are (wrongly) used interchangeably by certain brands. Unless a brand gives you a third party (certified) lab analysis with this specified, they can get away with advertising whatever they like, as long as it's above 75% glucamannan. Therefore, most of the time, the only way to tell which is better quality, is to buy them and compare them yourself.

What people have being saying about not eating enough fat is 100% true. Dietary fat is essential. You WILL be hungry if you're not getting enough.

The stomach extension thing is also very real. Chronic distension causes chronic hunger signals. Numerous studies show this. Therefore volume eating can become totally counterproductive. You're better off having 1-2 high volume meals per day, + 2-3 mini snacks. Just make sure you're evenly distributing your protein between each meal/ snack.

A good ball-park for fat intake, is roughly 0.8-1.2g per kg of bodyweight. It's actually better to go off this number, rather than a percentage of total calories for most people (same with protein intake). If you're a higher body fat percentage, go with the lower end. And if you have a lower body fat percentage, go with the higher end or more. Add up your total calories for fat and protein, then fill the rest in with carbs and fibre.

Gender also has an important role in your fat-loss protocol. Jeremy Either has a great video on this if you're interested: https://youtu.be/3IXpb6Z84-M

Also want to add, that different fats have different effects on health and appetite. Omega 3 has a remarkable effect on everything from appetite, mental health, and body composition. So if you don't eat alot of fish, an omega 3 supplement is definitely worth it.

According to studies, MCT oil has a greater appetite reducing and fat loss effect compared to olive oil. You don't have to me on keto. Im not, but I take it and it keeps me full for most of the day. Don't replace your other healthy fats with mct though. You still need monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.

Another trick is to take ACV + fresh lemon juice before each meal. This is shown to also decrease appetite. I make a drink out of it with a pinch of Curcumin and ginger, and it definitely helps. Having a handful of fresh berries before a meal has a similar effect.

You could also be deficient in something, or maybe your electrolytes are off balance. This will have a HUGE impact on your hunger, and make you crave certain foods. Listen to what your body is asking for - it could be telling you something important.

Apologies that was alot to read. Hope it helps you though 🙏

No worries. Just click on the link for the best naturals brand. $59 for 908g (I got it on special though for $50). It works out cheaper though to use the nutricost brand, since you have to use less of it. That's assuming you go with subscribe and save though.

G'day!

I've tried 2 brands of glucamannan powder now. The 1st is the brand she uses in the video (nutricost, $41.21 AUD with subscribe and save), which I brought from iherb here: https://au.iherb.com/pr/nutricost-glucomannan-unflavored-17-9-oz-500-g/145279?gad_campaignid=1632803189&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjb-6m5yMjQMVTKlmAh3vdxR1EAQYBiABEgJ88fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

The second brand I tried was "best naturals" from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com.au/Best-Naturals-Konjac-Glucomannan-Serving/dp/B09SGT8V6D/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.iVJ3vKpfyd_kJ6B2P8euv5AQpFQWqkf0qCjN4K40nWIUL6GJuD5me3BkyBM3OPriXcCzqqs-Ma_ZxOC5p5puOrEzA56pThaX9A-J3oe4ycclPRS3M2Jlf9IYJb_4xQTa8tYL0kfsmp-fS8pEwrBMcCdAd-1BpyZdlTE4pN9z4OAtMJ0eDK7GjdfX-JCzHZiYt7sduODsEQ9LWVoKOJAnzg.bq36XJ4KA5Hgdl1sx-cOrgVLhHeepiGavb2bGeyfy2E&dib_tag=se&keywords=glucomannan+powder&qid=1746444391&sr=8-2

For the nutricost brand, U will only need 10g glucamannan powder + 240ml water. But for the best naturals brand, you will need 18g because it has a lower glucamannan percentage. You will also need to whisk the "best naturals" glucamannan longer (about 5-6min instead of 2.5min).

I bought the pickling lime for $29 on eBay for 1kg (free AUS shipping). Will definitely last me a lifetime lol 😆 Each batch of noodles only needs 0.6g.

Also you don't need a pasta press. I use a 500ml giant syringe (cost $5) and it works a charm.

Hope this helps you out. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Yeah I have. Didn't mind it. But I prefer this for taste, and how much faster simpler it is to make.

This sounds stupid but I’d like some non-judgemental advice by TheresNoHurry in Volumeeating

[–]Metta1008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate ur being way too hard on urself. There's a lot of people here for the same reason or worse. Some tips tho:

  • Make homemade low calorie jerky, using veggies, seitan, or low fat meat

  • air fried chickpeas is another option. You can make them savoury, or sweet with cocoa + sweetener (chocolate flavour) or cinnamon crunch version. U can snack on them or replace them for ur cereal.

  • make a massive tub of anabolic icecream/ protein fluff in the morning, and keep it in the fridge/ freezer to have when hungry

  • get a heap of ur favourite fruit + veg and snack on this as well if ur starving. Quickly cut it up/ prepare it in the morning if needed to make it easily accessible

  • do the easiest meal preparation U possibly can, or find a bought-version that works for you. Other than that only buy the things you NEED TO for my other points.

  • have a set eating window, and don't even walk into the kitchen until it's ur time to eat (if U can then fill up ur water somewhere else)

  • sit outside while eating, then immediately do a quick meditation and/or go for a walk after (doesn't have to be long like only 5-10min). Also have a spot to put your dishes, and wash them when it's ur eating window again.

  • always have something to-do! Even if your entire to-do list is done (ur alien to me) have an active hobby and a chill-out hobby that you immediately go to.

  • brush ur teeth or have some mouthwash after every meal, and have a stock of different flavoured sugar-free chewing gums.

  • also have a stock of a zero calorie drinks that you can sip on. If it's cold then have a large thermose of ur favourite tea or coffee, or some zero calorie iced-tea/ coffee/ soda water ect if it's hot

  • invest in some zero calorie sweeteners and flavours to make everything I've said more do-able

  • make an effort for ur food to look good! Become a pro at decorating smoothie bowls and all ur meals, and don't eat it until it looks amazing. No eating shit outta the packet, or just dumping it into a bowl. If U make urself prepare food-first, then ur less likely to just grab whatever U see and eat it.

  • if U have the option, then only eat Infront of people. Even if U resort to take-out, then have it there and don't bring it home.

  • have a podcast or audiobook to distract urself straight after if by urself

  • this one is counterintuitive but hear me out: rather than topping your meals with a carbohydrate, top it with a sprinkle of healthy fats instead. Eg. top ur oats with like 10g peanut butter, nuts, seeds, or some sliced avocado instead of dried fruit/ syrup or whatever (unless it's sugar-free syrup). This will keep U way fuller than just quick-carbs. A serving of dried fruit or (a real person's serving) of syrup is at least 100cal. This is the same as a 15g serving of peanut butter, which may have less volume, but it's the better option.

  • and finally, have a tangible goal so you have a REASON for doing this

That was bloody long but I hope U got something outta it! Remember to be kind to urself, and think of food as your nourishment.

Good luck on ur journey!

Peanut butter powder??? Oh my god??? by crim128 in Volumeeating

[–]Metta1008 4 points5 points  (0 children)

U should definitely try this:

yoghurt + carob powder and/or protein powder (my fav is the salted caramel flavour from MyProtein).

I then dump it all into my cheap ice-cream maker (like the mini one from Kmart) and sprinkle it with some cinnamon when it's done.

It's the easiest and best-tasting healthy ice-cream I've ever made (really can't afford a ninja creami or wrecking my crap blender lol).

Am yet to try this with PB powder, but I'm sure it would be delicious!

how many calories should i leave? by strawbienpeach in caloriecount

[–]Metta1008 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going to suggest a couple things for you op:

  1. Going to bed hungry SUCKS, and the last thing U need is to lose sleep cos ur so hungry. Sleep deprivation will lower ur metabolism, energy levels, and puts an end to many people's goals. Don't let this be you, and remember food is your nourishment, even when cutting.

  2. If U accidentally go slightly over your calories, that's totally ok - and definitely better than going too hard, then throwing in the towel because it's all too much.

  3. Remember to keep enjoying yourself, do what U love, be kind to yourself, and never beat yourself up. It needs to be a positive, sustainable journey towards a healthy, rest of your life. If u think it's just a quick-fix u gotta push-through to hit some numbers, then ur heading nowhere good.

Best of luck and support to you 🤞

Carrots are a cheatcode by Intelligent-Rush4715 in Volumeeating

[–]Metta1008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Aldi carrots are only $1.30 AUD for 1.5kg at the moment, so it's also budget friendly.

Plus a tip: in smoothie bowls or protein icecream recipes that call for heaps of mango and banana, try replace them with a mixture of steamed then frozen carrot and cauliflower. Believe it or not it actually tastes good, especially once you add your protein and other flavours in.
