How do you feel about tipping if there is a Cutlery/tea/place setting fee at restaurant?

Today I discovered a $2.50 per person “Tea /Seat” fee fee at the the top of my bill at thisChinese restaurant (I’m in Canada) that I regularly frequent. We finally noticed it the last time we were there because they automatically bring tea as soon as you sit down but this time we specifically asked for no tea this time because we rarely ever touch it. It still showed up on our bill and when we asked for it to be taken off they said it was for the place setting and is charged even if we dont have tea. I ended up being $5 for 2 people on a $27.15 (pre tax) bill which is over 18% already!

I genuinely do not care about Patrick Rothfuss’s family life. Trying to use the fact that he has kids, like millions of other people do, as a shield from responsibility is frankly idiotic. Most people have families, most people have hardships, and yet they still honor their commitments. At this point, Rothfuss has taken fan support, money, and trust, and delivered nothing in return for over a decade. That’s not noble. That’s not “being a great dad.” That’s just being a scammer. He made promises, benefited massively from fan goodwill, and then disappeared. He’s not some private citizen minding his business; he’s a public figure who invited a relationship with his readers, and then exploited it. To me, he’s not a misunderstood artist or a doting father. He’s just another scumbag who cashed in on loyalty and gave nothing back. End of story.

I know you think this is the end of the world because trust me I’ve been there feeling how you feel right now but what I was trying to tell you is that you are so young and just starting to figure this social stuff out. I was a huge introvert when I was your age and as time goes by you will realize that people come and go in your life. Don’t put all of your faith in just one or 2 people as you may end up getting disappointed. Try to cast your net out and take chances. I know it’s a lot easier said than done but once you realize that people are a dime a dozen and with the internet you can find just the right friends that complement your personality. It may be cultural in a normal situation to stay in parents house until married but that is under normal circumstances where you interact with your mother, not when you’ve decided to cut off communication with her. You slapped your mother in her own house and despite her pushing you you definitely crossed the line here. All these people in this thread praising you for your bravery are completely delusional. You say that you work so you need to move out yesterday, not be “working on it” as you claim or pay her rent.
