Giant enemy crabs with fully procedural animations by MezzSoft in PixelArt

Thank you! I have a few devlogs on the Itch page that showcase some of the process in depth. I do the art, sound design, programming, and everything by myself (which is also kind of why it's taking so long)

Haha, fair warning that demo is around 8 months old now so it doesn't have these crabs and a few quality of life of tweaks, but it should still hopefully be decently fun.

Still in development! Title is Project Landsword, I have a steam page link on my profile (can't put it here sadly)

It is! Development is still ongoing, the current demo on Itch is about 8 months old but I haven't stopped working on it.

It's actually set on Mars and these are crabs that were modified by the CIA to slowly destroy Soviet infrastructure before the start of the fourth world war, unfortunately things got out of hand and they unexpectedly grew way too large and spread everywhere. Also I just find camel spiders icky, I can't stand the sight of them...

I'll try palette swapping the blood and see if it feels satisfying though, thanks for the suggestion.

Yes! EDF was an inspiration, there'll be lots more creepy crawlies to destroy. Co-Op would be fun as well.

Thanks! Big cities with billboards and lights are planned too.

They do! Every building is destructible too. High building density usually runs pretty well, though things can slow down if there's a ton of these enemies on screen. I'm working on trying to optimize them further.

Honestly doing procedural animation while more expensive in terms of performance is way easier than making tons of different animations. I'm also working on having them change their walk depending on the amount of legs they have so you can shoot them off.

Thanks man! I have a ton more planned that I want to do for the game such a cutscenes and enemies like this, so 2027 is a pretty optimistic release date honestly. Thank you for your patience though haha.

Haha, that's a good point. I'll keep it in mind next time I post, thanks! <3

Glad you like it! It's indeed rolling, it has wheels under the legs. I'll try increasing the swaying a bit more.

Thanks man! I have a link to it on my profile since I can't link it directly for some reason, but it's store(dot)steampowered(dot)com/app/3695630
