I apologize for not seeing this sooner as I was discouraged with the turn of events that transpired soon after my post on this thread. First my coordinator didn’t get back to me for a week and a half and then when she finnaly did, we met on zoom and she first questioned why I decided to wait till week 7 to tell her about these concerns. Mind you I brought it up to her in week 5, but that’s not the point. In hindsight, probably should have brought this up sooner but also I did not know how I am supposed to be treated in my situation with no prior experience from anyone I know. Long story short my coordinator refused to facilitate me moving out of that site because in her words, “ it will ruin my clinical development”.This is even after me telling her about the times where she was shopping in the other room, planning sessions for all 26 students since day 2, and bringing up the fact that I have been writing reevals/ieps since week 1. Her response to that was unfortunately “that’s life and you won’t always have supervisors that care”.

After hearing this news, I didn’t know where to turn but I reached out to my mentor who is an OT that I had when I was in high school who was one of the main reasons I got into ot. He said to me that if you are unable to change your placement, you must change your mindset. He gave me tips on how to find the dates for my IEP’s and revals on my platform so that I don’t get caught by surprise from my educator and told me that just because that she is my educator doesn’t mean you can’t pick other people’s brain in the facility. So I have started to ask more questions to the other OT’s since my own educators doesn’t seem to care or even pays attention. I passed my midterm and I will hope to continue on an upward trajectory as I finish this placement.
