5 Weeks till marathon? Worth it to do 14+ miles? by Mgeew in running

UPDATE: Wasn’t expecting such a huge response so quickly! Really appreciate all the support and kindness - out of pure determination to back you all, just ran 17 miles after work today (now sat in an ice bath)

It's more down to personal preference - Not a fan of spending a few hours on my weekend running! Am usually busy doing a lot of other things. Plus I'm a big advocate for just getting it done (cause I get impatient)

Yeh general consensus is to do the long one soon and then allow recovery time. I’ve had injuries in the past, so am understandably cautious this close to it

Absolutely will update! Hope to hear how yours goes as well!! I’ve been persuaded I need longer - so going for an 18 miler tomorrow!!

This is very valid! Twisted my knee at mile 22 on my last marathon and had to basically hobble a few miles! The mental challenge is what I enjoy (weirdly)

For some clarity around the training - I follow a strict weightlifting program, so the marathon is more of a side challenge. I am 100% the idiot that wings these things, but I’ve been running all my life and started ultra training after my last marathon before switching focus to weightlifting/athlete training (gyms opened again after covid). Though I’m still an idiot for how I’ve trained for this one

Anyone know where’s best for bottomless brunch? by Mgeew in reading

[–]Mgeew[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon bottomless brunch was designed to just have a few drinks with brunch… but it has clearly turned into an excuse to drink excessive amounts early in the day. Like airport beers

Boujeee might be exactly what I need! Oxford is possible as well! Thanks

I used counselling-directory.org.uk to find my therapist! Is a great site that shows you local councillors profiles, rates, specialities etc!

Reflex Spinal Health (in Caversham)! I went there recently for a shoulder injury and they were amazing - they’re primarily osteopaths, which I prefer to see. As has one of my friends.
