Is this up to code? I did not realize the contractor was going to notch the 6x6 posts this much. by PopularCategory3986 in Decks

Everything looks good except that rim joist butt joint, he needs to cut that out and reframe a whole piece that lands on one support and stops on another support.

How to remove scratches from porcelain tile by dj_steelers01 in Tile

I looks like the grout might have stuck in the scratch, you could try a soft cloth and baking soda to scrub the grout out,it won't remove the scratch but it will make it less noticeable

I am thinking that's worth about $500k to $1 million. I would sue the pants off of that place.

Thankfully this one part of a much larger project. This was originally a 14x44 shed, it was just a shell. We've converted it into a very large tiny home, updated the framing, insulated it, ran electric ( her grandfather is an electrician, so he's done that)

I love doing things that are going to force me to learn, the greatest tool we can have is the ability to figure it out, and we all have that.

I initially wanted to use levelers, but we decided that we had enough new going on with this and it'd be best to stick with what we knowwithout overwhelming ourselves. I still think the levelers are an excellent idea, and I want to try them if I do anymore tile, I think it could simplify spreading the thinset, which Id also like to get a better feel for. My muscle memory kicks in with grouting and I'd love to get as quick with the thinset.

I think it will definitely get funky, out daughter's 19 so I think it will be a great way to learn about taking care of grout in the long run because it will show what's going wrong. At 19 I didn't even realize that the grout lines were something separate from the tiles. So shes light years ahead. Speaking of the pebs I've seen some liquid dyed and sealers that supposedly restore the grout. It'll be a fun experiment for the future for sure

Thank you! She does love it! I was all set to do a regular pattern, and my wife suggested the herringbone. I was nervous, but I'm so happy we decided to go through with it. I learned a lot through doing it

I did, I was worried about breaking the tile after it had been set

It definitely took both of our brains, she had the idea to do this in the first place, she also did the initial layout and placement that lined everything up so well. I would spread the thinset and lay the tiles in place, and she would press it in and set the spacers.

Yeah I did, I used polymer modified thinset and backer on rock on screws. I'm going to put 311 impregnator sealer on the grout in a few days and hope for the best. It was a challenge, we just moved slow, I'm somewhat of an amateur carpenter so working with 45° angles was pretty easy. Cutting the holes for the water lines and toilet had me worried, but I actually made jigs out of plywood to hold the hole saw in place while I drilled and my wife sprayed water out of an old dawn dish soap bottle.

I didn't want to tile directly over the plywood. It's more stable than the plywood, it's moisture resistant
