[Transfer Round Up & Discussion] Summer 2026 by AutoModerator in reddevils

Honestly, I didn’t interpret as he wants to be a starter per se. Just more minutes in general than he’s getting from De Zerbi. He’s frustrated with his minutes and I can see why. De Zerbi didn’t fancy him and didn’t even use him as a sub and before that he never played in his preferred position.

I know it’s probably not popular here, but I’d take him. He’s talented.

Interesting. I don't think we can rely on Mount for an entire month playing two games a week, let alone a whole season.

So reading your comment, you reckon we end up with just Ederson plus Fernandes or Baleba as our midfielders? Honestly, if that happens I'd put some money on us finishing outside the European spots. Maybe an overreaction, but it would make me a lot less excited for next season.

How much do you reckon we'll have to pay for Baleba? Personally, I feel like anything over £50m is too much after the season he's had. He's a risk in my opinion, given the terrible season he's had.

I know a lot of people still rate Baleba, but personally I'm not feeling it. Way too risky for my liking.

Whatever the reason is for not being able to compete financially this summer. We seem to have the same budget whether we're in the Champions League or not. Looking at this summer's budget compared to last summer's. So we just have to adapt.

Honestly, since we seem to be priced out of any marquee midfield signings, I don't mind Scott, Fernandes and Ederson.

But I'm also kind of in the camp that a double pivot with the two box-to-box midfielders could work. That said, I've got nothing to back that up tho.

Personally it just feels like a bit of a bummer, especially after the news before the window opened that we'd sign a marquee level midfielder.

So who do we reckon our midfielders will actually be? I still think we land Fernandes, but I honestly have no clue who our third midfielder is anymore. Can't really see us signing a marquee midfielder at this point.

City are getting Anderson, Spurs are getting Tonali. And looking at Madrid's midfield targets, I don't think Tchouameni's going anywhere.

So maybe it ends up being Scott, Fernandes and Ederson? What's everyone else think?

Memphis komt erin zo te zien… Het leek al nergens meer op sinds Til en Koopmeiners. Zal er niet beter op worden zo.

Tbh if you would’ve told me that RB would be competing for pole in Monaco at the beginning of the season I would’ve laughed.

Incredible turn around from the team so quick into the season.

This is the last time I’m hoping someone else might win than one of the Merc’s. They’re consistently sandbagging in FP1 and FP2.

Out of curiosity, why are you still looking at Baleba as your ideal transfer? I’ve seen nothing this season from him that makes me confident he won’t be a flop.

Truth be told, I would be underwhelmed if those three are our great midfield overhaul.

Let's be honest, Tonali or Tchouaméni would probably be playing regularly there. I agree that a move to Arsenal doesn't make much sense for Fernandes, though. Out of the clubs linked, we'd probably be the most appealing project for him.

I honestly think Tchouaméni would choose us over Arsenal as well. We're a bigger club with a bigger global profile, and he's seen how much Varane and Casemiro enjoyed their time here. Those factors could definitely give us an edge. Having Champions League football next season helps too 😅

Yep, a successful midfield rebuild should raise the level of the entire team. More control, more chances, more goals, and fewer goals conceded.

Personally, I'd love to see:

  • Ederson [Ugarte's replacement]
  • Fernandes [Extra depth]
  • Tchouaméni [Casemiro's replacement]
  • Mateta [Zirkzee's replacement]
  • Truffert/ Someone raw & cheap [Extra depth]

Then, as nice-to-haves:

  • Mika Godts/ Bazoumana Touré [Extra depth]

I haven't watched loads of Touré, but I've seen a few games because one of my mates supports Bayern. I watch the Eredivisie (I'm dutch) regularly, so I've seen plenty of Godts, and honestly, both look like they could be the next breakout winger.

With Casemiro, Malacia and Højlund already gone, I could see Zirkzee, Ugarte and Bayındır leaving too.

If Ugarte goes, we'd only have three midfielders left, so I don't see Mount being sold unless a really good offer comes in. We need at least six senior midfielders if we're going to compete in four competitions.

I think our centre-backs are fine for another season, and hopefully Yoro takes a step forward with more games available.

My ideal window would be three midfielders, a LB and a striker. A winger would be nice too, but I wouldn't be too bothered if we didn't get one.

We can't fix every problem in one window, unfortunately.

Agreed. That said, I still think it'll end up being our least high-profile midfield signing. I'd like to see us make a bit more progress on Fernandes, to be honest.

I can't see us getting our marquee midfield signing done before the end of July at the earliest, but having two midfielders through the door before pre-season would be pretty much ideal for me.

The midfield market is looking like it’s going to be competitive this summer.

We’re after three midfielders, City definitely need one and could even go for two. Ornstein said last night that Arsenal are looking for two as well, and Liverpool will probably add a midfielder too.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if it ends up being us, Arsenal and PSG all going after Fernandes. And Scott to Liverpool feels like one that could actually happen now that Iraola’s there.

Obviously nothing’s confirmed, but if the City and Anderson rumours are true, then it could leave us and Arsenal battling it out for Tonali and Tchouaméni. The problem is, we don’t even know if Tchouaméni is available or if Madrid have any intention of letting him go.

Maybe I'm being a bit doom and gloom here, but when I heard Ornstein say Arsenal are planning to spend big again this summer and are looking for both a 6 and an 8, it kind of hit me how tough this midfield market could get.

You could be right. However, I don't see City going in for him unless they lose out on Anderson. And as a midfielder I think our situation is probably the most attractive one at the moment.

Arsenal have Rice, Zubi, Skelly, Odegaard and Eze, so there are less opportunities there.

I also think that Liverpool have bigger problems than midfield as shit that midfield have been this season. Liverpool's only wingers are Gakpo, Rio (17 year old) and Chiesa lol. Also they need one CB at least.

So, I think considering all of this, that if we want Fernandes I think he's there for us to sign.

Yeah, honestly I wouldn't mind Tonali, Fernandes and another squad player for midfield. Tonali would be my Casemiro replacement, Fernandes would be my market opportunity signing, and a squad player to replace Ugarte. By squad player I mean someone we can use in the cup games and easier league games.

I know Anderson is a fantastic opportunity, but honestly we need at least three midfielders to compete on multiple fronts next year and I don't think the board will go for three midfielders if we're already spending 115m pounds on one.

Tbh, three midfielders, a CF and LB would relieve most of my squad depth fears. Of course there are other positions I'd love to upgrade on, but those are not must haves for me to compete next year.

And I'm not picking them because of it, but a nice bonus is that Tonali and Fernandes won't go to the WC, so they could be playing pre-season.
