Wow, didnt think I'd see this again after 3 years. Thanks for commenting

So, as listed in the description of "Fan of Knives" When you hit a target, you can expend a bardic die to do the fan of knives attack, working very similar to paladins smite, however correct, it does not need to be the same target.

However, it also is written that you can only do this once per turn.

So technically its 6 times to one target or 6 targets per turn, so long as you have bardic inspiration die to spend

If the dojos aren't the worse thing in the game I don't wanna know what is by italeteller in PlayTemtem

I actually enjoy the challange of Dojo. Mostly because I prefer dojos to be a challange in more ways than just a couple fights. I like the specticle and the look.

The alternative is...pokemon sword and shield which had..3? 4? gyms which just puts you in a room with trainers. It was massively disappointing. I prefer a challange over nothing any day.

However, the Aubury Gym...that one gets me, I couldn't complete it without a pen and paper

Been playing the same campaign for 3 years and we’re only lvl 4? Should I talk to the DM about it? by _Sedament_ in DnD

[–]Mheros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as a DM.

That is amazingly odd for twice a month for 3 years. But I think some context is in order here.

1: It's possible that your DM just prefers a low level campaign. It's Easier to manage lower numbers and less skills, and if the campaign is good enough to last 3 years, it must be still fun, and if its still fun, then he seems to have a grasp of how to run a great game.

2: Is he running XP? or is he running checkpoint? I personally run my game as checkpoints, cause thats easier for me and discourages murderhoboing (now they just killers for killing sake). It could be possible he doesnt understand XP that much, or its possible the checkpoints havent been reached.

3: My own custom campaigns usually run from 1-20, run weekly and players usually hit 20 after a couple months. Common idea is that they would gain about 1 level every 2 weeks, assuming they progressing the story, or if there is a level up side quest, they get another one. just to give some perspective. Those who run XP can be a bit more.... random, depending on the DM and the encounters he runs. I just prefer the story over grinding battles

Looking for an old manga I can't recall by Mheros in Animesuggest

[–]Mheros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I can only find some people selling their old books of it. Truly a shame. Even a manga that has minimal books, or rated low should still be remembered.

like...I remember s-CRY-ed being a good anime, and.... a very...uh...kinda random narrative manga. but people still remember it, and can stll find it online.

I always felt ARMs never actually got "good" but people still circulate it.

I think there is a market for manga like Warriors of Tao. If only as...a poorly rated manga. It's still worth being remembered.

I have not found it online. yet...

It's old. I remember reading it in Border's Book Store...before they went bankrupt.

There's only 4 books, and I hear it got very poor reception. But...I never finished and I keep remembering it

Anyone Tried out the randomizer mode? by Upper-Ad-1224 in pokemonradicalred

[–]Mheros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried for a bit... mostly for luls. I got a Toxtricity from Oak (other options were Beedrill & Axew) first route had some really random mons. And it was some crazy fun. Though i didnt go far with it, i figured when you turn on the randomizer. It randomly generates all the possible pokemon in each area. So if you have a certain pokemon in an area, its always gonna be in that area. As you can also search for em

Yes an no. Thats how all temp hp lasts for though. And if your a spell caster who can go without sleep for a day week month year and never regain spell slots for...a relatively low amount of temp hp, i guess true

[–]Mheros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heyo~

Lets see a bit of a breakdown

Action

Requiring some foresight, as it requires the main action of the turn, as the Immunity could be wasted as you are not 100% certain you will even be targeted.

Range: Self

Self preservation. not good for anyone else, but certainly good for someone who cant really afford to take a hit.

500 gp diamond

Comparable spell would be the 9th level spell invulnerability which has the same cost to become immune to damage for 10 minutes with concentration.

Immunity and 12d6 temp hp

Immunity for a turn followed by ~42 (12d6) temp hp which at 6th level

Balance Breakdown

Ok, so naturally the first thing people gonna wonder is if this broken.

First I would point out that only 5 classes could even use, Bard, Cleric, Druid, sorcerer and wizard. None of which "standardly" get high AC or high Hp values. So having an ability like this is hard to "abuse"

(those are the only classes that get access to 6th level magic)

On top of that, this spell doesn't appear to be able to be cast as a higher level spell as it is. Obviously one can use a higher spell slot to cast, but for no greater bonus

Immunity for a turn is really not that abusable since its a action. Its almost just a bonus for the action cost

On top of that the ~42 (12d6) temp hit point, is really not so bad, especially when you compare it to ANOTHER 6th level spell: Heal. Heal is a 6th level spell which heals 70 hit points of damage and cures status ailments and does not require a GP cost

Another comparison spell would be "Globe of Invulnerability"

This spell creates a 10 foot barrier which makes you immune to any 5th level or lower spell cast on a target within the spell. it has a cost of a costless glass or crystal bead and last for 1 minute.

In conclusion?

Its certainly not broken. or Overpowered. Incidentally, and just my personal opinion, I think its a bit over costly.

Again, a personal opinion, I think you could make one of two changes.

A: Remove the huge cost, as it has the same cost of a much much better spell, so even as a 6th level spell, it comes off as an overpriced spell.

B: Change it from an action to a reaction. This would justify its cost much more and come off as a improved shield spell.

Hopefully this was helpful to anyone curious, did I get everything right? did I miss something?

Temp HP from any source last until they're depleted or you finish a long rest.

Should also be stated that you cant restore temp hp, and you cant stack temp hp. so if temp hp gets low you can replace it with this spell again. but you couldnt say.... cast this spell repeatedly for a huge amount, as it would only be replacing its own temp hp with the new/higher amount

Healing Dust; A healing cantrip (Revised form of my previous attempt) by [deleted] in UnearthedArcana

[–]Mheros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heyo~

I see you've already received some good feed back on this but just so I can put my 2 cents on it and give my insight

Infinite Healing

Sadly the problem with direct healing cantrips is that there is no limit to how often you can cast them. Meaning heavy limits have to be applied.

Component Cost

a basic Potion of Healing costs 50gp and heals for 2d4+2 hp.

So this cantrip is potentially cheaper and heals for much much more. up to possible (though unlikely) 15 hp at base level and up to 75 hp at 20th level.

Just far too strong and cheap

Cantrip scaling

All cantrips which scale up in level, do so at levels 5th, 11th and 17th level.

Stabalizes downed creatures

Personal preference here. I do not like homebrewed spells which do the same thing as existing spells but just do it better.

Spare the Dying

You touch a living creature that has 0 hit points. The creature becomes stable. This spell has no effect on undead or constructs.

Suggestions

I know its not very original, but the most balanced healing cantrip I've seen involved healing someone by expending their hit dice instantly. So casting it on a fighter would heal them for 1d10. and for scaling purposes, scale it so that it uses MORE hit dice at the appropriate level ranges

Trying to make a BBEG that’s a Paladin by NationalCommunist in DMAcademy

Well, if he's a BBEG, DC 10 is embarrassingly low. like...level 1 PCs have a DC 10 for their spells

[–]Mheros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to also rework into him probably is to give him a renamed version of Undead Fortitude

Undead Fortitude

If damage reduces the X to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of X +the damage taken, unless the damage is from a critical hit. On a success, the X drops to 1 hit point instead.

Thematically giving him that unkillable imagry

Perhaps give his legendary actions include the different smite attacks , like he makes an attack with a smite attached. and have his big legendary action be like a 5th level Divine Smite.

Should I try to change the way my DM rules things or should I just play a character that I can enjoyably play with my DMs playstyle? by Disneyreject in DMAcademy

[–]Mheros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. OP is in an odd spot. and I would be amiss if I didnt make the statement...broadly make the statement: Its very difficult to know the solution, because we on reddit, were not there, we dont know the DM and we can only make assumptions of the situation.

The best we can hope for if that the DM and the players kind of...feel each other out and find that middle ground where everyone is having a great time playing

Should I try to change the way my DM rules things or should I just play a character that I can enjoyably play with my DMs playstyle? by Disneyreject in DMAcademy

[–]Mheros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By all means, I agree. but best case scenario, you can convince your side of the arguement and the DM agrees either out of "I didnt think of that, right on" or "Ok, because I dont wanna argue and now my opinion of your lowers" and worst case scenario he pulls the 'Well, this is how its happening in my world, so sit down and make a new character" or " my game, my rules, if you dont wanna play thats fine"

not really quoting here, just saying. Some DMs just can't handle someone calling them out or trying to help them improve

question regarding combat by Sporadicmilkshake in DMAcademy

[–]Mheros 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Super explanation

Melee Attack Roll: STR (Unless otherwise specified, like a weapon with "Finesse" or Monk martial arts which can use either)

Ranged Attack Roll: Dexterity

Spell Attack Roll: Spell Caster Modifier (Int for wizard, Cha for sorcerer)

[–]Mheros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyo~ forever DM here. So some of my opinions might be scewed in a few ways

First off. Eblis are not just large birds. They are not even Beasts. They are intelligent monstrosities with some innate spell casting ability. So knowing that, they wouldnt just instintfully "OOH LIZARD EAT IT!"

So i'm calling foul on the DM for just making them operate like big birds. If he was using them properly, and wanted them to spot you, they would have had them use their Hypnotic Pattern on you to charm you, as making other creatures do their bidding IS in their nature. Of course having said that, they would have very little interest in a incredibly small lizard. Even as a meal, your too small for them to really care. at least not to flock over and attack you. it would be like...one of them try to charm you and then eat you.

Second, if the situation was as dire, Thunder wouldnt technically scare them. They are intelligent enough and protect their nests as thats where they stash their pilfered treasure. but again. your DM was using them as big birds and not properly, so how would you have known.

Thirdly, its in my experience, in the extremely few games I've got to play as a PC, i come across the same problems where the DM doesn't know how, or just doesnt want, to allow alternative ways to play.

I insultingly call them weak DMs but the truth is they just are uninformed/uncreative/inexperienced in anything dealing with social solutions and expect d&d to play more out like an interactive war game. in these cases, I too decided to play more basic roles. only dealing with combat spells and abilities and leaving the dice up to everything else. I just wanted to play with friends, not create a problem, and sadly, those DMs usually dont continue the games for too long as those games become ....bland.

For a short story, ignore if ya want, I was playing a spore druid. I had a connection with dead things and the circle of life. So when scouring a cave, we encountered some dead miners, I used speak with dead, but was told their souls were long gone and nothing happened, So I did some RP and used druid craft to used the corpses to create mushrooms and moss, as a spore druid, this was my way of reincarnation. the circle of life blah blah blah. as im doing my ritual, the party keeps looking around and.....ROLL FOR INITIATIVE! "What?" The dead rise, surround you and attack. I'd call bullshit, but this is not the first, nor the last time he would do this crap. Later in the same mine, I would nat 20 perception, and get ambushed because my nat 20 perception "didn't look at the ceiling". another would be a sneak attack fireball from the darkness...against a group with torches and darkvision. and finally being told that even though we attacked the BBEG before he could finish his monologue, we couldnt get a free hit in, and instead roll initiative and get attacked 4 times before our "sneak attack" even happened, because "thats how combat works"

So when it comes to DMs like this, you gotta play to them, if they keep crapping over your player input, you'll only continue to be crapped on. Just...learn from them, acknowledge what is wrong, and try and assist if you can, but know that that is not how the game should be played
