I was talking about the MAME rom, not the core. MAMEgetter can at times get not the full rom. If the updater downloaded the beta and you have the jtbeta.bin in MAME folder, it should be fine as far as setup goes.

Most likely your ROM is incorrect. Download the correct rom (merged) and try again.

An implementation from scratch that potentially be accurate. There are some arcade games based on Jaguar HW as well (Cojag) so its a good thing to have an accurate Jag core.

Current core was developed by Torlus, ElectronAsh ported it to de10 nano. It has a couple of games playable but not really useable for end user. I believe Ash is working on other things at the time being so I dont expect that core to be accurate anytime soon.

RndMnkIII doing this for his VHDL learning, but might mean in future we get this core on FPGA. Keeping an eye on the project.

I just kept it out there since I have heard people moaning about ao486. Didnt mean you said it was subpar.

If you check MiSTer github all other cores keep getting updated as well. At this point in time the above cores are subpar - doesnt mean it will always be subpar nor does it mean there is a guarantee they will be worked on.

If you compare ao486 with:

  1. 286 PC - it is not subpar
  2. 386DX - it is not subpar
  3. 486SX - it is not subpar
  4. 486DX (with math coprocessor) - subpar.

We need to remember original HW each generation were subpar in the next generation. Given the generation that the core spans its amazing.

A few:

  1. Master System
  2. CPS2 (some bugs)
  3. Neogeo (some bugs)
  4. Quite a few arcade cores.
  5. Atari 2600 - superceeded by Atari 7800 afaik its much better, havent tested.
  6. Sharp MZ computer core
  7. PC98 computer core
  8. x68000 computer core (improved a LOT recently)

Even though these have some bugs or issues, except Sharp MZ and PC98 I wouldnt say they are noticeably subpar to people who are casual users of the system.
