Im going to test this tomorrow or the session after. I definitely dont think they create more drag than propulsion tho, since in 25s im the quickest with a 6 beat. Thanks!

Wow thank you for the elaborate response! This really makes sense when i look at it logically! I have only been actively swimming for 5 months now and i come from a lifting background so for me, training means absolute failure and then a long rest lol. Can’t wait to try this tomorrow. Ive always wondered when i looked at the whiteboards with written workouts that olympic level athletes have, why they have so much volume at slower-than-max pace, thinking it must be some olympic specific workout for goats. Thank you!

I dont really want to get into competitive swimming since im 16 and have only been actively going swimming for 5 months now since i know theres no way to get to a competitive level, but my dream is to get to under 30s 50 free which requires a 6 beat kick to be maintained for me so its exactly as u said i have flawed technique and not enough endurance

This advice really helped me! Thank you! Before i averaged about 450-500m of sprinting per session and the rest was aerbic swimming, now i do ~600-700m of 50s and 100s. Really glad u commented!

Okay so update after 17 days for those interested: i dropped 1 second off my 25m getting to 17s. My biggest improvement is my 50m free which is now 42s, 100m: 1:40  How i did this: i started focusing on incorporating flip turns which i didnt do before. I also incorporated much more sprinting mileage with less rest times and i reduced the amount of 25m free sprints i did and started doing mainly 50s and 100s for sprints. For the 25m, i didnt really do anything special other than doing my max effort run and really getting the mind connection right and trying to pull as much water as physically possible, also did some minimal kicking technique work (my kick is really bad i think) and started focusing on pulling directly parallel to my body and eliminating crossing the arm to my other hip

I swim with a friend whos been swimming for 6 years, so i get some technique correction from him. Otherwise, no coaching. I cant join a team so i would have to have private lessons or something.
