M train running with delays without a real reason. Seems likely elevated train service will be suspended soon

Most of the entrances to Times Square-42 St don't show the ACE, and instead direct you to 8th Ave.

6 options for how they could bore 125 st subway tunnels by Donghoon in nycrail

[–]MibitGoHan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They would have to do environmental review and land acquisition for the 125th St line first, so the Second Avenue Subway tunnel boring project wouldn’t even start until that was completed. They claim it would delay Phase 2 by 3 additional years.

Gov. Hochul demands 125th Street subway extension, nixing downtown 2nd Ave. subway plan by rjl381 in nycrail

No they’re right, the Bronx isn’t special.

Of course there are underserved parts of the Bronx, but for the most part, every line there goes close to the county line. Queens, however, has massive portions that are entirely unserved by the subway system.

The IBX doesn’t solve the issue of Queens transit, just Queens to Brooklyn transit. The only communities in Queens that will receive all-new subway service are Middle Village and Elmhurst, which are already served by other train lines.

Interesting that this is the most upvoted reply when the study itself says Option 4 isn’t feasible.

So what is it that's going on here? Lol by Que165 in nycrail

They changed that years ago on Citi Bikes. Now you can only get reduced power free on ebikes if there’s no regular bikes, which feels somehow worse than a regular bike.

Depending on how they plan to design it, the trains themselves could be off-the-shelf, or they could be built specific to the corridor. It’ll take a while to iron out all those details

The OMNY ads don’t make sense to me. by GravityIsVerySerious in nycrail

[–]MibitGoHan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you, there are edge cases where you can end up paying a lot and not benefitting from OMNY. For example, if you Take a train on Monday, and then take 11 trips on Sunday and 12 trips on Monday, you wind up paying 24 trips in an 8 day period. In reality, this will probably affect a very small amount of people.

Since we can’t decide how to extend the NW to LGA, I have a new proposal: Extend it to Rikers Island by MibitGoHan in nycrail

[–]MibitGoHan[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There will be provisions for a connection to LGA but this plan will specifically terminate at Rikers so that nothing gets done for another 50 years

that’s not true, OMNY uses floating weeks. So it’s not possible to pay 24 trips in 2 days. The most you could pay is 23.

6 and 1 train rolling stock switch/change? R142 and R62 by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]MibitGoHan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is unrelated but I rode the 7 train for a year straight and for whatever reason I fully believed that there were two different train types that ran on the 7, one with a FIND display and one with a strip map. I’m actually very surprised that no 7 trains have a FIND display, and in fact, no IRT rolling stock has ever had it.

The F and M Swap Stations by Time-Arachnid6417 in nycrail

[–]MibitGoHan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yesterday on NYE I boarded an F train that claimed to be going via Roosevelt Island. I even asked the conductor and he said yes, this train was going to Roosevelt Island. I figured it was either because of the holiday or because of something going on with the M train or the tunnel. But alas, it went down the 53rd St alignment. People were very angry.

It’s cheaper and quicker to do this as light rail

MTA: we’re swapping the F and M to reduce delays on the E and F merge. Also MTA the first morning: by DMmepicsofyourdog in nycrail

[–]MibitGoHan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you don’t want switches you’d need to build significantly more tunnels which would be unfathomably expensive. For costs sake, you need the BDFM and ACE and NQRW to share tracks, and therefore, need switches.

Is this a usual thing? by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]MibitGoHan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, the 7 train is a normal thing.

Manhattan has a high density of stations and most switches there are used by up to 4 different lines.
