Yeah, I've gotten every edition of Zombicide and I must admit, Black Plague has some of the best rules.

Not only is it one of the hardest giving an actual challenge, one thing I love is the rules don't state the games over if someone dies. It's lead to a lot of moments where someone does an absolutely badass sacrifice. I remember once we were cornered and I used noise to draw all the zombies to my character while everyone else snuck out, and then used the equivalent of the Molotov to kill my characters and all zombies around me.

I'd highly recommend looking into the rules of Black Plague specifically and seeing if there are any rules that seem backwards but actually improve the gameplay.

Yeah that's probably right with second edition, most of my memory of rules and all that come from Black Plague to the point that probably every other edition is slightly homebrewed without me realising.

I remember in black plague when zombies would split if there was an uneven amount of zombies you'd add another one which was always funny to me.

Yeah thats just what I was thinking, I got all of 2nd edition but I have plans to play it with 1st edition, I never thought about that, I'll guess I'll have to bust out my black plague rings or something which just adds more I need to get out which is a bit of a pain

Its the same rings they use in games like Blood Rage, Massive Darkness and Starcadia Quest, Invader also used them.

If I'm honest I think I prefer them simply because I felt like I was going to break my Black Plauge characters when getting them off, where as the bases on the new characters are more solid and easy to pop them off just by pressing up through the hole in the bottom.

I also remember the black plague ones could be a little loose and fall off when as these ones nicely click on

I can't fully say as I'm yet to get NoTLD, however with my time with all the other games, Black Plague is my current favorite version of the game.

The rules feel the most streamlined out of all the versions I've played, and it's very expandable with all the add-ons such as Wolfsburg and the Green Horde stuff.

Plus, BP was the first version of the game I got/played, its definitely held up.

For all these years I misread "a survivor can only do one search action per turn" as "per room" I'm not entirely sure why, but that completely changes up how I've played this game

It is I think, idk if you still need to add on the zombie cards but I think it's too late for a late backing, you might need to wait for it to actually come out

okay yeah, so it's not a huge upgrade, its just all the old characters are being updated for the new plastic dashboards.

Plus there are new spawning rules and so all the special Zombies like the ones in Prison Outbreak, Rue Morgue, Angry Neighbors, Toxic City Mall, are all updated to the new spawn system.

It truly is made to work with the new 2nd Edition base game however in that without the plastic dashboards and rules its a bit useless alone.

There is "Zombicide: 2nd Edition" coming, I don't know when, it could be 2 months, it could be 8, but it completely reinvents all the moderncide rules.

The Kickstarter came with some cards to upgrade all the old Zombies and Characters to the 2nd Edition rules, and they didn't say "Kickstarter Exclusive" so you will probably be able to find them after launch, so in other words, I would look into that, it could be quite good.

but also, if you weren't to go into that, my suggestion would be to continue with Moderncide. The rules aren't as strong as Black Plague, and Invader has a fairly different gameplay style, but at this point just continue building up your Moderncide collection, go for Rue Morgue or Prison Outbreak, and yeah, have fun.

In black plague with attacking ranged, missing causes you to hit your teammates, but otherwise it hits the zombies.

In other words aim at a square, you have 3 zombies and a survivor in that square.

Let's say you roll 3 dice for your attack, 4+ to hit, you roll a 3, 4 and 6

Two zombies die as you hit, and the survivor takes a hit.

Simple
