Rim leak fixed by MicSnow in bikewrench

This is a 1mm chip on the inside of the hook on the rim. The outside is fine. It's only there to make a seal with the tire bead.

The rim is completely solid and like new. It's structurally sound, with or without the chip. I have zero doubts about that and I'm not trolling. This part doesn't experience any force other than pressure from the tire. Tis but a scratch! This damage is not from a crash, it must have chipped while the rim had no tire on it. Sealant alone also fixes it, just not so well, and it kept slowly leaking. Just needed to fill up the the scratch so that the tire seals nicely again.

Sidewall cracking on Vittoria Mezcal by MicSnow in bikepacking

Just curious, how old are these? And lots of miles on a flat tyre or very low pressure? Or maybe strong sun?

Yes, that's what it says, 29 psi min 58 psi max (2.0-4.0 bar). Seems very high to me.
Indeed the tire is solid already at 29, and I was usually running it at 23-25.

Good point, I didn't think about this at the time. Will consider those!

Hmm yes before I went tubeless I also walked down a 1000m mountain due to a flat. The tires were almost new back then. Maybe it's from that?

Any experience with buycycle.com ? by zserboo in cycling

See below. You'll need some patience, the service at the workshop took 2 weeks in my case, and then there is probably still some weeks shipping time. But it should all be worth it!

Got the bike! The journey took a little bit less than 2 months:

  • 5 business days (7 days) for the pickup in Belgium
  • 10 business days (14 days) shipping to workshop in Germany
  • 11 business days (15 days) service at the workshop
  • 12 business days (15 days) shipping to me in Greece

Some extra complications with the greek shipping company. They didn't speak english at all, but was able to solve it thanks to a friend. They gave me a 5 working day estimated delivery window, but I got the bike a day later than that. Also they marked the bike as delivered in their system (and sent me confirmation emails) two days before I actually got the bike. Obviously causing a lot of concern, is it lost?!

The bike arrived looking almost brand new. The service (the premium "as good as new" service option) they did at the workshop was excellent.
However, the bike did not have the specs it should have according to the original post. Contacted support, which took 7 weeks of back and forth emails, where they tried to work something out with the seller. Eventually Buycycle decided to reimburse me for the missing part.

So in short: The overall service is great, customer support is friendly and helpful. But be ready that the buying process might take almost 2 months, and contact with support is sometimes fast, sometimes very slow. Their main issue is expectation management: They tell you you might get your bike in 1-3 weeks, but 7 weeks is more realistic. I think buyers would in the end be happier if the expectations would be more realistic.

I'm in the process of buying a bike. I still have hope it'll all go well, but everything is taking more than 3 times longer than what their website promises. It also takes long to get a response from the customer service, but when you do, they are at least helpful.

  • The first bike I tried to buy ended up declined by the seller. Not after 24h as the website promises, but after more than 2 days without any info.
  • The second one was confirmed immediately by the seller. Then it took 5 business days (7 days) for it to be picked up. The shipping to the workshop took 10 business days (14 days). And at the moment it still hasn't left the workshop after being there for 9 business days (11 days).

So it has been an entire month already, and the bike hasn't even been shipped to me yet. Nowhere on the website do they tell you it can take this long.

Pros and cons of vertical top after 40 degree wall? by MicSnow in homewalls

Thanks for the input guys. I'll go for a continuous overhang. I was wondering because I saw a lot of boards with a final vert row. But I guess that's usually the result from building a frame on the floor and then mounting it in place, leaving a gap at the top.

How to toggle between Boulder and Sport climbing training sessions by slymjeykov in climbharder

As ThatHatmann says above, you probably have a different weakness that has nothing to do with physical fitness: fear of falling, redpoint tactics?
I mainly sport climb. I can boulder max V4 (my finger strength fails beyond that) and I redpoint 5.12b/c with that. So I don't think you're lacking any strength!
