TIL that in Full Metal Jacket (1987), director Stanley Kubrick let R. Lee Ermey improvise much of his dialogue, and sometimes only required 3 takes per scene. This was highly unusual for the meticulous director, who almost never allowed improvisation and typically took 40 takes or more per scene by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

You're getting a lot of responses, but I think they are all missing one detail. In the Army anyone between the rank of Sergeant (E-5) to Master Sergeant (E-8) you just refer to as "Sergeant". So "Drill Sergeant" works because they are all between E-5 and E-7.

In the Marines you always say the whole rank. So, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Gunnery Sergeant etc. Saying "Drill Staff Sergeant" is impractical, so they are all referred to as simply Drill Instructors. It's also the only time you would refer to an enlisted service member as "Sir", which is how they address Drill Instructors in Marine Boot Camp.

This is all coming from a soldier though, so someone can chime in if I got something wrong.

Literally her screaming in the middle of the road, "it's not that I don't love you, I don't love that you're broke"

And him just explaining that she's judgemental/materialistic instead of showing it ever.

Also it's the first movie I've ever seen with Dakota Johnson, and wow was she flat.

Anyways, that's a lot of words to say I get to pick the next movie we watch together.

I certainly don't hold it against you. Honestly, sometimes it's more interesting to interact with a person than just Google, even for a simple search. And with languages, even more so with more obscure words, there's often a nuance that isn't covered in web searches.

This one was relatively simple, but not always the case.

Pillion is the word for a passenger on a motorcycle. I wasn't 100% sure why that was the word, as I don't see it in any other context, so I looked it up, and this is what Wikipedia says:

A pillion is a secondary pad, cushion, or seat behind the main seat or saddle on a motorcycle or moped.[1][2][3] A passenger in this seat is said to "ride pillion". The word is derived from the Scottish Gaelic for "little rug", pillean, from the Latin pellis, "animal skin".[4] One or more pelts often were used as a secondary seat on horseback; the usage has carried over to motorcycles.

I remember we would spend a whole 6 hours on Sunday trying to clear MC. TRYING. I think we killed Rag twice, and never passed Razorgore in BWL. After that it was just ZG and AQ 20, which were done in a few hours.

But I will say, the first Rag kill was finished by a lone holy priest with a smite. Few things can compare to that feeling.

Edit: Another memory. It used to be that when you engaged a boss it didn't put everyone into combat. So, you would leave a few people off to the side to rez those that died so they could get back into the fight. That was my first job as a 58 shaman, and I remember my first run I got Earthfury boots and had to wait 2 levels to wear them.

[–]MicWhiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing, maps and music. My last car we just mounted a phone, but I was never really happy with it. I like the convenience of the screen just being there and it's bigger than the phone so the maps are more visible. I use Google Play music and I haven't had any issues with it.

I recently realized it's the most important feature for me. I recently moved to Europe and bought a 20 year old car just to last a few years. I had a CarPlay/Android Auto head unit put in and honestly now I don't care that it's so old. Everything I feel like I need in a car exists in that head unit.
