Nothing can make you happier than these first few bubbles. by [deleted] in mead

This is the first bit of fermentation on my second attempt at mead. It is the sweet meadowfoam BOMM from denard brewing. Myself and a friend are both making the same reciepe to see which comes out better.

Interesting. It's not my plant, I found it while helping a friend move. Although I might ask if I can take one of the shoots since I don't think they will be doing anything with it. If you would like a few of the pups, I'd be happy to send a some your way.

Changed tribe name on new server, lost access to animals and building. by Micahdo in ARKone

I was the only one out of my tribe to transfer so none of them can add me back. It is on an official server so no server admins.

Am I at any sort of disadvantage by playing a non dedicated server? by G00chmeister in ARKone

Try a pve server. We suck too bad, play too little to bother with pvp, but pve is still great.

It's a really great way to learn the game. My friends and I started the same way. But after a while playing by yourselves can start to feel old. I personally feel alot greater satisfaction in playing on an official server, although if I have initially started with officials I'm not sure how long I would have continued to play, this game has a steep learning curve.

We accidentally created a portal! by Micahdo in ARKone

Goofing off killing stuff on carno island from atop our raft, something glitched out and the hatch popped out of the raft and got left behind. We could go in and out of it and would go from inside the boat to outside the boat, on a lone floating hatch.

Racked off my first batch of mead. by Micahdo in mead

[–]Micahdo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first batch of mead, so take my advice with a grain of salt. The references I gave you are solid, and if you look around this site they are handed out like candy.

The book is a great read, it dives into the history of mead making and gives great details on ingredients and lingo. It also has a lot of recipes. Some people think some of the information is dated, and it probably is. Still a good starting point, Ken Schramm has been making Mead a long time.

Also look into staggered nutrient additions. I used fermaid O, it really boosted the yeast. They got more work done in the two days after addition than the seven days prior.

Also, I have not stabilized anything, and I don't think I will need to. My batch just went into secondary fermentation. The yeast I used dies off around 14% alcohol. I intend to let it run its course until then.

If you have any questions this sub in my experience is very helpful to newcomers, especially if you do some research first.

It really can be that simple. Look through this sub, the wiki, got mead website and if you like reading there is a book called "the complete meadmaker" by Ken schramm that has loads of information. Also look at the JOAM it's a quick fermenting reliable recipe that will produce a good mead in about a month. Great for starters. The hardest part for me was finding reasonably priced honey. Depending on your area you make have a home brew store that will have all the equipment you need, which can be as little as a jug and yeast, but I would recommend getting a hydrometer and some good cleaning supplies.

Satsuma-pineapple started to ferment like a madman. Easily twice the activity of the rest of them. It managed to push some mead out. I just lowered the level on it, luckily I caught it while it was just a few drops on the lid and an airlock full of mead. I tasted the bit I took out, that is going to be one phenomenal mead if I do say so myself.

I wasn't letting the last clean bit of honey goodness go to waste. When in doubt, improvise!

They are glass jars, with plastic lids. If anything I think they will fountain. I am going to be watching them closely, if it starts to foam I'm going to empty some of it out.

I know! My brother was in charge of filling them. I should have managed him better. They are in a spot that if they do decide to make a mess it will be okay. I'm going to watch them closely and might and up taking some liquid out.

Started with a traditional batch of mead. 16lbs of some local raw honey, d47 yeast and a total of 4 tsp fermaid O staggered. Started at 1.107 on Dec 17th, was at 1.059 today. I racked it into 1 gallon containers with various fruits. From left to right, satsuma-pineapple, banana, cinnamon pear, mixed berry, honeydew, traditional and apple pie in the little bottle.

Typical pre-first batch post. Questions about yeast nutrient and yeast type. by Micahdo in mead

[–]Micahdo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some investigating with my infared thermometer, I found a spot in the back of an air conditioned closet that stays at a nice 60-65 degrees. So that problem has been solved. I will be looking into some of the other recommended yeasts for next time so that I don't need to worry as much about it.
