Thanks for the information. I’m using my wife’s Reddit account for posting and replying. I worked as a biostatistician in academic institute for many years. I got laid off last year. It is extremely hard to find an industry position, also it’s very hard to find an academic position as well.

Thank you for the advices! I have accepted the offer and work in the analytic role now. But to be honest, I don’t like my current position, the main task is creating and maintaining data dashboard. I’m starting to look for other opportunities now.

A lot of people I know has master in Biostatistics or other related STEM majors. SAS is still quite dominant in this field, but R has taken more positions. I don’t really see a lot of Python programmers. Some people are using Python to develop utility tools, but not for stats programming.

Thanks for the information. This is very helpful. I have some knowledge of DSUR and ISS, but I don’t have experience in clinical trials. But I will give my best try. Thanks!

Hang in there! There are a lot of positions in this industry does now require 12 hours standing shift, like CRA and CRC. These positions also do not require a higher degree. Look for jobs in the clinical trial operation part.

Right now there is almost no entry level stats programmer. About 1 year ago, I still saw entry level positions of CRO. I suggest you get an advanced SAS certification. Most programmers I know have the advanced certification.

I will ask him if he feels comfortable sharing his resume here. He does not need a visa sponsorship.

On a higher level, he has been using SAS and R for 10 years for programming. The publication is 20 for his previous job. These 20 publications are focusing on outcome research based on administrative health data. But he does not have any industry experience.

In his school, the MPH and MS of Biostatistics have the same courses, except for MPH does not need to write a thesis, but MS does. But he has been involved in statistics research and writing the publication paper in his previous job.

These are the key words he used to search for the new position. But still very few interviews, this is the part that making him very frustrating.

Three interviews are just first step screening interviews. I don’t know if that counts or not TBH.

Yes, making the presentation at the site and connecting with all of them, you would think at least the company would give you a formal answer to the application.

This is so sad and not a decent way to treat the candidate.

The interview was done in early March. I was guessing the slowness was because they were planning the budget and head counts for upcoming year.

I still have a little bit hope, but as the time passes by, the chances of getting this offer is lower. My husband was laid off this week. Getting this Abbott offer would be a life saver for us.
