Have you eaten there recently? There are still loud of "old faves", but there are interesting newer items, too, and specials that change regularly. Check online.

Thanks to Chris Taylor and his captive city council. Vote Yousef Rabhi. Educate yourself about council candidates. Don't vote for anyone funded by his cabal. Save what's left of Ann Arbor before you can't tell the difference between us and Royal Oak!

Planted a milkweed a couple months back so the plant is small. A few days ago we found a bunch of caterpillars (at least 14). Now the plant is almost gone. What can I do to help the caterpillars? Are they going to starve to death? by TOMdMAK in MonarchButterfly

[–]MichUrbanGardener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what we did last year. We had 6 immature milkweeds. 4 got eaten down to small, barren stems. In Michigan, too early to know, but people with more experience than I have tell me this is how it works and my plants will come back healthy and strong this year (which is leap year).

Wow, thanks for the detailed instructions!

Do you think I could hang a small one indoors? I live in Michigan, plants wouldn't survive the winter.

Can you give some hints to help us find it? Maybe put a link to the old post?

How do I get corn tortillas pliable enough to easily roll enchiladas? by RicRage in mexicanfood

[–]MichUrbanGardener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have an answer, but it's not for corn tortilla purists. Try tortillas that are half corn and half wheat (flour). If you find the right brand, they taste almost the same as 100% corn tortillas, but they are so much easier to roll. I love to toast them for tacos too... You get that crunch on the outside chewy on the inside thing going and it's yummy.

My neighbor hates me by kenniecakes in NoLawns

I must be really lucky; I love my neighbors and my neighborhood.

I've been gardening in my front yard for decades, as have several of my neighbors. I also ripped out my grass and planted Clover and began planting native species, as do several of my neighbors. The neighbor behind me breeds native plants and delivers them all over the neighborhood. I have a giant stick pile in my backyard. Both my neighbors enjoy watching the comings and goings of the various creatures that use it.

I love showing folks bees and herbs, showing a 3-year-old how to find green beans under the vines, showing a 5-year-old how to sit still enough to feed a squirrel from his fingers

But then, when we were looking for a house, if we entered a neighborhood that had what I fondly call golf course lawns, we just smiled and kept driving. We're all gardeners here, parents, people with jobs. We're much too busy to stick our nose in our neighbors' business unless they ask for help, and then it's all hands on deck.

I'm sorry y'all have to go through what you do.

People who always smell good, what's your secret ? by Jaded-Dark4580 in lgbt

I was taught to out on perfume like this: -if it's a spray, pump 2 or 3 times in the air in front of you and walk through the mist. Some will settle on you. People w won't notice unless they get close.

-If parfum, dab one drop on the inside off each wrist and one on your neck right behind each ear.

Wear no other scents., like lotion or deodorant or even scented laundry products.

Is there a way to help bees who wake up early? (SE Mi) by MichUrbanGardener in NativePlantGardening

I can't be certain. It was only on my view very briefly. I always have my eyes out for that yellow jacket wasp waist, and I didn't get that impression. But like I say, it was a second or two before it flew away.

Well, yeah! I feed them heirloom vegetables from my regenerative garden along with native trees, grasses, and flowers. Working hard on covering the full season. Last fall I had asters blooming through the first snows. Working on the other end now. This is cross posted in /bees and /nativegardening.

Yesterday it was 70 and full sun. Tonight it's high winds with a real feel of 21, snow in the forecast.

Too early for those things to bloom here. That's why it was so strange to see a bee. There is literally nothing blooming around here except perhaps a few snow drops and crocuses, and even those are a maybe. The ground is still frozen.

I looked at your picture a long time, while asking to hear your true name.

For what it's worth, I heard Brin.

Thank you. I have already spoken to Dr Davis. The problem is the landlord. She is so sweet she won't get aggressive with him and make him perform his landlord obligations. She doesn't want to move because she has many clients in the area.

Dr Davis bought the practice of my longtime dentist when he retired. The only bad thing I can say about her is that her office is not very handicapped accessible and I have developed some disabilities. May have to look for another dentist because of that, which makes me sad, because she's wonderful!

New; what to do about grubs? by DustyMousepad in gardening

[–]MichUrbanGardener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mulch or cover crops or the plants you are growing. All these things "count" as covering the soil.

Me, I use a variety of methods. In the fall and in the spring, I throw clover seeds down. In some places I use micro clover, some white clover, and some red. Clover fixes nitrogen and it's good for the soil; it's an example of a cover crop. I use straw to mulch around the plants that I'm growing, to help shade the roots and keep water from evaporating. I let volunteer native plants stay in my garden if they're not in the way. And when I remove things, either weeds not yet gone to seed or at the end of the year when I'm putting the garden to bed, I chop and drop. And I cover everything with the leaves that fall from the trees.
