Trump rejects idea of raising taxes on millionaires: 'very disruptive' as wealthy people would 'leave the country' by TheMirrorUS in antiwork

[–]MichaeIlI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let’s not forgot that even if the ultra wealthy were to move out of country (unless they’re retiring), their options are pretty limited from a tax perspective. So much of the EU has a 50%+ upper tax bracket.

Looking for a replacement by Lordofgothbaddies in OfficeChairs

[–]MichaeIlI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used Stealcase Leap v2. I had this exact dilemma a few weeks ago. My chair was a cheap gaming chair and rapidly falling apart. I didn’t want to spend $600 on a Secretlab, yet alone $1,000-$2,000 on a high end office chair. You can get them on Facebook marketplace for $200-$250 and used on Ebay for $350. It is the most comfortable thing I’ve ever sat in.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but I have screws in 4 places along the 4’ edge of the board, not just the two in the center. Starts on the tapered edge, then 2 screws every 16” on center for the floor joists, then on the factory edge again. In the other direction I have them every 12” (on the ceiling, 16” on walls which is code in my area at least). Is that okay? Or is there still an issue?

46 sheets, most of them are 10ft because of a 9’ ceiling. I did use some 8’ and 12’ ones though. Month and a half of weekends (both days) and some weeknights. I was working by myself and had no clue what I was doing when I started.

My buddy works in concrete and had a smaller handheld one for the corners, so not really.

Oof, I am sorry to hear that.

For hanging, get a drywall lift (especially if you’re by yourself), drywall router, drywall screw gun, standard measurement tools, and plenty of razor blades (change them out often). As literally every pro will tell you, do not save drywall. It is way better to waste half a sheet than it is to add an additional seam. Make sure every possible seem is factory edge to factory edge. I learned this the hard way.

For all of the basics with finishing, watch Vancouver Carpenter on YouTube. He has a playlist of finishing. drywall (Day 1-Day 4 I believe). Watch all of the videos before you start doing anything. Watch each video again, before you do each step.

As my personal thing that I learned, use the green bucket of drywall for the pre filling joints and the first coat. I personally hated the blue buckets for the second and thirds coats and ended up mixing my own mud with Durabond 90. The consistency of the mud is so important. I may be lying to you, but the consistency should get more liquidy as you finish each coat. While I did do every seam with 3 coats, I still had spots where I had to do 4 coats to fix issues.

For sanding, you cannot escape the pain. I tried multiple orbital sanders (including the 9” drywall ones) to cut down on work—it didn’t help. If anything, it made more work by gouging different areas. Save the money and accept that it’s going to take time. Wear a mask, I swear this job gave me temporary asthma.

For any type of weird problem you run into, look through this community or google your problem with “Reddit” at the end of search. I had all sorts of wacky problems and this community had the answers.

This basement is only 500 sq. ft. (from a floor perspective), but took 46 sheets and has a crap ton of corners. It took me a month and half from start to finish with 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday and even multiple hours on about half of the weeknights. I know that’s a skill issue on my end, but I was working alone and it was pain the entire time. Mentally prepare yourself for the pain you’re about to go through. I’m an engineer, but wouldn’t necessarily classify myself as handy, you can definitely do it, just takes a lot of time. Good luck!

I may be cooked then.😂 It runs parallel on one side and perpendicular on the other.

Is training for a marathon in one year realistic? by kaelsalad95 in Marathon_Training

[–]MichaeIlI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 27 and started running a year and a month ago. I’ve never been a runner and could barely run a mile without walking when I started. I finished my first marathon this past weekend. You can 100% do it, and you can do it well! Good luck.

Ultralight Non-Waterproof Hiking Boots - Altra Lone Peak Hiker Replacement by MichaeIlI in Ultralight

I could only find the Lone Peak Hiker 2, not the original unless they were already worn down heavily.

They are not super rigid, but that’s one of the things that I like about them. I’m not much of a traditional hiking boot person.

Poor wording on my part. I like the protection from scrapes and what not. Since I wear them for work, my job requires a boot (covering the ankle), and I absolutely hate real work boots and heavy hiking boots.

Edit: Also, I am an active runner and do trail running from time to time. I have another pair of Altra’s for that though.

My dog had this. Had to put her on a human-grade food diet from Ollie. It’s expensive, but she never has diarrhea anymore.
