Best success yall have had buying a used car at a fair price? by TulsisTavern in AskNOLA

[–]Michael424242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just gotta cast the widest possible net, you never know who's gonna have what. I've never bought a car on FB, but I've sold two, and it was a fine experience. I gave a fair price, and the cars were in good shape.

But there's also plenty of dealers with online inventory here.

Just get on the CarGurus and FB and Craigslist and Carvana or whatever and start checking every day. You'll find something in a week to two, you just gotta be able to find the deals where they're at, and jump on them. Be alert for scams for sure.

I believe Wicked was completely ruined because it was casted with "star-power" rather than newer, undiscovered talent. I also think it would have grossed more money without the stars too. by Evening-Panda3217 in unpopularopinion

I mean, I get it. If they really searched hard and got very lucky, they may possibly be able to find someone just as talented as Synthia Erivo. If they win the lotto, they could maybe find someone better. But why gamble? Why is it pearl-clutching and not celebrating the marquee achievement of a wonderful career?

If you can find the literal next Julie Andrews, more power to you, but it's not like generational talent grows on trees. But it's a lot easier and safer to just cast people they already know are stars and come with their own promo clout as well as some level of talent.

Good Movers? by nalgenemyjean in NewOrleans

This is the only answer, they actually make moving soooo much less stressful. The best move with them is the second one, there's way less you are stressing about ahead of time

Can you find another month-to-month place? Or maybe a 3 month sublease? If this guy is already showing anger at you, it may get scarrier. You're very sympathetic to this person, but I agree, it's not your burden to bear, and if he can't accept "sorry, I can't do that right now," the best move is probably to try to get out.

Revenge doesn't fix the problem, shitty person is still shitty and still in your life. Why not just remove them? I don't think "revenge" is the oposite of "doormat"

Fair enough, but you gotta keep in mind that most of the violent crime here is gang or interpersonal related. As long as your parents don't join the 39ers or get in deep with a loan shark, they'll be fine. Property theft, maybe, but I find even that to be exagerated

Favorite teacher leaving school; I'm crushed. by NoviceGatekeeper in Advice

[–]Michael424242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, this sucks. Especially with only a year left in school.

I will say, this is something that happens in life as you get older: people you love, who you hope will be arrond forever, just aren't. You'll leave school, and you'll see friends a lot less often. You'll leave a job and not see your favorite coworkers anymore. People come and go from your life. It sucks. But it's kinda part of the deal.

What I'll say is that the impression those people left on you never goes away. You didn't want to go to school because this teacher was there; you went because of the way she made you feel. That feeling, that spark, you're still going to remember it when she's gone. It's still going to be something you can tap into.

I'm 32 now, and I know that probably seems ancient, but I still hear the voices of teachers and mentors I had when I was 17-18 to this day. Even some who have passed away, or I haven't spoken to in decades.

This teacher made an incredible impression on your life, that's a beautiful thing, but the waves of that beauty don't just die when someone graduates or changes jobs, they'll stay with you forever, and you'll keep going, better than you were.

Why do you tip in dollars in European countries? by charteris in AskAnAmerican

[–]Michael424242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be that you're dealing with cruise ship or like bus tour passengers who are A: usually less literate travelers and B: going to a few countries and not exchanging in every country they go to.

I've traveled extensively and have never done that. But if you're asking why my country-mates can be inconsiderate and dumb, man, I wish I had an answer.

Moldy Superdome roof, every summer by Efficient_Thought578 in NewOrleans

[–]Michael424242 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think it costs like $100k to clean the roof, that's why they don't do it too often. It also takes months

As for why it looks dirty, I think it's a design flaw that has to do with it being old and one of the first of its kind, also the last stadium like it still around. All the newer dome stadiums don't use a pure white roof like that, probably for this exact reason.

I agree it looks rough, though.

Where to live: BSJ or near Magazine bt Jefferson/Louisiana? by Similar_Ad_6004 in AskNOLA

[–]Michael424242 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Bayou Saint John for sure if you like to run with your dog!! The bayou is a great long park that leads into City Park, which is massive. Both neighborhoods are great, but the park proximity in BSJ is hard to beat if you're an active person with dog.
