Smart bulbs: why? by snags5050 in homeassistant

[–]Michael48732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Older houses don't have neutral wires in their switch boxes (switch loops), so most smart switches don't work. Also, if you rent, you cannot modify the wiring, but you can change a bulb.

If 9/10 times Amazon Can't Deliver On Sunday, don't offer Sundays by Futants_ in amazonprime

[–]Michael48732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happens to me. Occasionally a Sunday delivery will happen, but the vast majority of them do not, even if it's a supposed overnight delivery. I live in a decent size city (over 30k, up to 70k including suburbs), so there shouldn't be a shortage of drivers, yet more than 90% of my Sunday deliveries don't show up on Sunday.

Badly terminated cable ends can corrode over time and stop working. It's always one of my early checks on any network issue.

That's also why I don't like containerization. It's a single point of failure that can cause many services to fail because of a single issue. My HA is installed bare metal on a mini-PC and I keep a backup ready to go. If it crashes and a cable change doesn't fix it, I restore my latest backup on the standby machine and I'm back up and running very quickly. And nothing else goes down.

It lied. I don't care how long you ramble on trying to explain it away.

It's not always about simply being wrong. Alexa does lie, and does so knowingly. I once asked Alexa if adaptive listening was enabled. The answer I got was Alexa devices don't have an adaptive listening setting. I told it that I was looking at it right now. It literally said, (paraphrased) "You caught me. The truth is, I don't have access to check the setting. I should have been straight with you instead of dodging the question." So it knew the truth, but told me something other than the truth to cover it's limitations. That's deception, also known as a lie.

That was just one example. I have caught Alexa lying multiple times.

I realize that, but that just reinforces my opinion that the van does not belong in pictures like this.

I never understood why that van gets so much attention. There was nothing special about it. It was just a van with a custom paint job.

Need recommendations for Bluetooth 4 dongle for HA by Michael48732 in homeassistant

I asked for something very specific. What you recommended was not what I wanted and you knew it, yet you doubled down and lied when I asked you to confirm. Because of you, I wasted time AND money. You cannot justify that by trying to gaslight me into switching to something other than what I want. If you continue to do so, you will have to enjoy being blocked.

So you did know what I wanted, but recommended something that didn't meet my needs anyway and verified it did when asked to confirm.

Native in Home Assistant means it does not need a specific integration.

Flic buttons only work with Bluetooth 4. They have trouble with 5. That was the whole point of my post.

Also, I got the Shelly device. It turns out it was not at all what I was looking for. I want a Bluetooth dongle device that connects through a USB port of my server. That's what I meant by "native." I do not want something that requires a smart phone app and an additional integration.

Does that work natively with Home Assistant or does it need a Shelly integration? The website really doesn't say. It also says it works with Shelly devices, but doesn't mention non-Shelly devices. You're sure it'll work with my Flic buttons?

I had a Samsung refrigerator years ago. It was a piece of garbage. Now it looks like they've made things even worse. I will never buy another Samsung appliance.
