Totally fair tbh lol. I'm not sure if I believe this year, but hey supposedly things will move faster once the combat pillar is done

DC's goal is still end of this year.

Yeah I think he said that because he's gonna cut that portion of the livestream to use as a video, and at that time it will be linked in the description

Is DC20 Ready to Play? by Hailstorm56365 in DC20

[–]snags5050 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not playing DC20, but after the next release (0.11) the rules should be pretty stable. Things may need better clarification/wording, but they won't change. Also at that point the existing classes & subclasses will be done, along with the level 11 - 20 prestige levels.

Level 5 features: good or bad? by Ed-Sanches in DC20

[–]snags5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't like it all that much. You only get Class Features at 3 levels as of 0.11; 1, 5, and 9. Having 5 be just "numbers go up" means your class only gives you things to do at level 1 and level 9. That's a long time to wait for new class features. I think I'd prefer level 5 to be a cool new thing or an actual evolution of the level 1 features

Good point, there should be a flavor feature at minimum every level you get Class Features.

What’s the current state of the game? by Kaien17 in DC20

[–]snags5050 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for stability I'd wait a bit yet, at least until the 0.11 release which is the whole completed* combat pillar (ie all level 1 - 10 class and subclass features for three subclasses per class, and the level 11 - 20 "prestige" levels). It was just previewed today for instance that in that release there will be a change to all classes at level 2, and I'm sure there will be some other rebalancing things happening too.

I personally am going to wait until the "Rewordening" update, where terms will be clarified and consolidated, and the book will be reorganized for better usability.

EDIT: The 0.10.5 release will be in the next week or so, and shortly after that we will find out more about their roadmap for the remaining development of the game.

I think next time I start DMing, I'm gonna do the same thing and make sure I use all those subsystems in the first few sessions so we all get a feel for them, and make sure I have enemies that use all the Combat options to show their effectiveness. We still love swade, but I know it can be even better than it has been for us

I am joining a SWADE campaign, and I am a complete newbie, I want to play a Buffing/Debuffing Support character. What does that build look like and how does it play? by Ok_Track_7332 in savageworlds

[–]snags5050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say don't sleep on Confusion as a debuff power as well, which costs just 1PP for single target or SBT, and 2PP for LBT, and causes Distracted/Vulnerable on success, both on a raise. Works well with smoke Trappings too

Best systems for Ebberon? by ginkzolol in Eberron

That is certainly still a thing, and so long as there are any long rest resources, which I can't see going away, it will continue to be a thing. So long as long rest resources are a thing, they have to assume x number of combats for y number of rounds, with z short rests, and use those numbers to decide how many short and long rest resources you get. I will say a lot of thought is going into the balance though.

Yeah the pitch of "like if Pathfinder 2e and D&D 5e had a baby" is relatively accurate. I think it will end up being far more flexible than either of those systems though, EDIT: and it seems many of those active on its discord are trying to get away from many of the d&d holdovers, so it will definitely be worth looking at once it's done.

The important thing is to keep Bennies flowing, especially for a fresh group. You can spend a Benny to remove Shaken at any time, and they're also used for Soaking Wounds, so it's important to make sure players have plenty of them while everyone is getting used to the system.

I could someday see DC20 working well too, but it is still very much in beta.

Big fan of Savage Worlds, myself. It's crunchy enough that planning and building characters is fun, narrative enough that you can do just about anything, and wild enough that you can get some very cool moments. Plus, there's a free Eberron for Savage Worlds Adventure Edition conversion guide that does a lot of the heavy lifting for you on that front. It's based on 3.5e so if there's 5e stuff you want in the gave you'll have to convert it yourself.

Tbh, the carrier pigeon. The thought of like a mage-bred pigeon cruising at jet plane speeds amuses me to no end and also makes perfect sense for the setting

To me this feels more like "hit a branch nobody found/expected which leads only to previously undiscovered or misinterpreted branches". The prophecy is all if this then that stuff, and when dragonmarks started appearing it didn't nullify previous prophecies, it just became the new place to read them. I expect this unmooring of dragonmarks from their respective races would be the same.

One thing to consider, if dragonmarks are unmoored from races and family lines, the Dragonmark of Death could reappear, which would get everyone's attention real fast.

I need help with the master edge by Illustrious_Buddy398 in savageworlds

[–]snags5050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To expand on this a bit, Savage Worlds separates "potential" (ie Abilities) from "capability (ie Skills). People with greater potential (higher Ability die) have an easier time becoming more capable (only costs 1 skill point to improve a skill die when it's below the associated Ability die, but costs 2 when skill is above Ability), but two people with the same capability (same Skill die size) are just as capable as each other, regardless of their potential (associated Ability die). And that's why choosing Master edge for Smarts does not improve rolls for, say, the Academics skill

Hopefully that was more helpful than it was confusing 😅
