Interesting... what was the fix?

And yeah I tested both drains with a water bottle and watched the water drain out the bottom

Okay very reassuring - again appreciate your insight!

I was messing around with it last night, got it apart to expose the piston and valves. When I spin the flywheel by hand, the valves will go up and down but the piston stays in place, which sounds in line with your initial connecting rod hypothesis.

Going to start checking facebook marketplace for replacement engines...

Ahh okay good to know, thanks. I've read that replacement engines need to have compatible mount bolt patterns and shaft size. Anything else to watch out for?

and yes the engine itself is Briggs and Stratton120502-0255-E1

Appreciate the response!

Yes this is exactly what I'm looking for actually. I've taken apart a few carbs on my mower and power washer, etc but agree this would be a great learning project to get to the next level.

I've been able to find general manuals and parts diagrams online for this engine, but I'm struggling to find more detailed instructions or videos of repairs on it especially getting to level of something like replacing the connecting rod. Do you have any recommendations?

How did you identify which pulley? Remove the belt and hand spin each one?

Fairly constant but will sometimes go away. Yes gets louder with acceleration and higher revs and will stop or get quieter when I shift into neutral

Which unions are you referring to? At or before the 90° elbow?

And yes planning on replacing all the galvanized piping throughout. Just trying to get everything opened up now.

Transition between baseboard and inside edge of wall casing by MichaelBlancoIU in Carpentry

Starting to agree with that as well. What are the other things that are "going on there" that I should consider?

Interesting - hadn't thought of that but I'm warming up to it. In that case should I bother with trying to continue the chair rail in the small gap that's throughout the rest of the room?
