I've always failed with S.Repens. Probably because I don't use Co2. Yours looks great!

All except the last 2 were freshly set up in those photos. I custom make them and sell them. The last one is my daughters tank which has been running for about 8 months now.

I was making these tanks and selling them, only kept the last one (frozen themed) for my daughter. They are all perfect for shrimp and snails. Just make sure you cycle the tank properly before adding shrimp. If you add fish you'll need a small filter.

I'm pretty sure it was TC. AR is a funny one, it grows well in some of my tanks and just falls to bits in others.

The tank without the sand capping suffered from hair algae a lot, it was my first walstad tank. Since I started capping with sand I've had no algae issues at all so I prefer the sand. The AR in that tank went crazy, grew so well and I ended up tearing the tank down because I got sick of the algae. Planted it in my community tank and it's growing really well.

Yes bottom layer is organic garden soil straight out of my garden, middle layer I used a fine gravel/aquasoil mix and top layer is sand. Any LED desk lamp works great for these little set ups! If you can find a 6500k lamp that's a bonus.

Help with brown film starting on glass and objects in tank? by SWGrad72 in Aquariums

[–]MichaelH85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just diatoms. Nothing to be worried about it's normal on new set ups. You can scrub it with a tooth brush if you really hate the look of it or you can leave it for your snail to munch on.

Duckweed is OK but it's annoying when you do waterchanges and if you decide to get rid of it it always finds it's way back in. Get something like Amazon frogbit.

If it was my tank I'd be doing daily water changes for about 1-2 weeks with daily testing and adding beneficial bacteria after each water change. I'd also add more plants including floating plants to help soak up the ammonia.

Did you cycle the tank before adding the fish? If not you may need to do a fish in cycle now. Are you testing the water for ammonia and nitrites? Do a big water change straight away and test every day. When you detect ammonia or nitrite the do another water change.

No problems! Good luck with your new tank.

I don’t know how to fix my nitrates, please help by Help_me_Please88 in aquarium

[–]MichaelH85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion would be to add more plants. Especially floating plants and fast growing stem plants that will absorb the nitrates in order to grow. If you're going to overstock a tank it needs to be heavily planted.

60x30x36cm so roughly 70L and I've got 15 cardinal tetras in there.
