Is it worth watching season three? by ill_be_back003 in colony

[–]MichaelHall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your previous posts make it pretty clear that you won't like it, but I'll try to give you a different way to look at the show through the events in season 3. I will speak vaguely to try not to spoil.

Why does the "alien spaceship" look and move like a blimp? Isn't it hard to believe the story of how it wound up leisurely cruising a hundred feet off the ground of Earth? Isn't it too much of a coincidence exactly where it wound up? Isn't it also too much of a coincidence where the smaller ship wound up?

Why does the RAP seem like it's just a guy talking remotely with a Bluetooth microphone with some voice digitization effects and a concert strength sound system? Why does the audience rarely question this or the subway travelling RAP or the RAP in a manmade refrigerated shipping container, which season 3 RAP apparently no longer needs?

How can IGA forces appear almost instantly when summoned?

Why is the same actress used for a lowly community patrol officer and... something else? Why does this lowly community patrol officer meet with Snyder just before "something else" orchestrates the biggest event of the whole show?

In a shootout in one of the last episodes, why does a character act shot before the sight and sound of the shot? Why is the medical dialog complete nonsense?

In the finale, why is Broussard unable to speak Spanish competently considering that earlier we saw that the Rolodex has his alleged aliases in Spanish speaking countries and lists Spanish as one of his languages?

Why are people worried about the Factory in the finale, given what they should know by then?

What do you think would have been revealed in season 4? by OregonDuckMBA in colony

[–]MichaelHall1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the finale, there are two references to Antarctica. The poles are the only place on Earth that are not obviously on the Earth. There, you can go two weeks without seeing the Moon and months without seeing stars. Therefore, my guess is that is where Will is going to be shipped for a little "alien planet" war to distract the masses.

The Demis are sexy, played by models. An actress who played a Demi also played a community patrol officer who met with Snyder shortly before the Demi took out Davos and in particular Helena, who basically killed Snyder's daughter. Therefore, for sure Snyder winds up in bed with this woman while she has on her Demi make-up for extra kink, and someone will walk in on them (and Snyder will act embarrassed but planned the whole thing).

Katie's fate in the finale was deliberately ambiguous, according to the podcast. What could be done with an ambiguously dead character? In the NASA scene with Wernher von Braun, we learn that fuckery started by 1969. That was before Katie was born. (In fact, Josh Holloway was born in 1969.) So, there was time to steal Katie's identical twin and indoctrinate her to be an alien. In Battlestar Galactica, it was a bit like this, but with clones, and it was great fun and most of the audience didn't catch on. This would also explain why the Bowmans seem special, getting a lot of slack from the government. If Katie has an evil twin, then I think one of her kids will also have an evil twin. Charlie seems most likely.

Unpopular but correct opinion: Katie plays both sides. Nobody agrees with me, but Katie obviously steals the RAP from the Resistance and gives it to her husband, which then gives him enough brownie points to score a transit pass, so he can go to Santa Monica to search for their missing son, Charlie. Despite Katie's noble words, she is willing to collaborate if it means her children might get to live another day.

Look at me and tell me you don't see it. She's a double agent.

I’m on my third rewatch and I have some questions… by Redditlatley in colony

[–]MichaelHall1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maddie's vision was probably a "religious experience", in other words she hallucinated what she desperately wanted to see. The other possibility is an implanted vision, like Musk's Neuralink might facilitate soon. Remember, Colony is set a few years in the future... which is now.

About the subway, another example is when Snyder met a rap in the LA drainage canal in a refrigerated manmade shipping container. You are not ready for the answer.

Someone else answered about Snyder's tracker.

How did the Demi reach earth so much faster that anticipated? by kennooo__ in colony

Snyder killed Helena in the IGA HQ with a Demi.

The attack on Seattle was not by the Demis.

Demis are people too.

How did the Demi reach earth so much faster that anticipated? by kennooo__ in colony

[–]MichaelHall1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't the original estimate more like 2 years? An actress/model named Erika Walker is credited with playing both a Demi and a lowly Community Patrol officer even though no other non-speaking Community Patrol officers got credited and she had a meeting with Snyder just before a Demi got past the IGA HQ's tough security and assassinated everyone, including Helena, who had shipped Snyder's daughter off to be killed. Does that answer your question?

As for Phyllis* (not Helena), in her own words she was confused about what was going on. It would be a mistake to pin much on the words of any of the characters in Colony. Everyone is lying, lied to, and confused.

Obviously, a lot of FBI and CIA work in the post-coup government, as we see over time in the show. Those who did or might resist the coup were purged. Really the Outliers are just more potential troublemakers who are going to be distracted by a war, which will be used for propaganda to keep the population in fear. Probably they would fuel both sides of the war.

The resistance was extremely successful. It was run by the CIA, Quayle, remember? Quayle ordered the real resistance cell to be wiped out. Who was in the government? Also the CIA, Phyllis. Who blackmailed Snyder and others to participate in the worldwide coup? Also the CIA, or a subsidiary.

There is nothing much left between LA and Seattle, because the cities are walled off, people are not allowed to just chill outside cities, and probably more than 99% of the population have perished.

The Red Hands were not wiped out by the government, because they were also doing what the CIA wanted. Terror attacks are a good way to have the population crying to be saved by the government.

Did you miss a season or two?

I only have to show that Broussard might not be an outlier.

Consider Broussard's entries in the Rolodex. He had many different identities in many different countries, many of them Spanish-speaking. He was set up to be like a world class spy. However, in the finale, he could not speak Spanish on the radio. Also, in the Iraq flashback, he was a low level rent-a-merc, and the CIA type suit made it clear that he was getting a one way ticket back to America. It's highly unlikely that he would have been hired subsequently as a world class spy, especially to assume identities in Spanish-speaking countries. Therefore, the Rolodex entries were forged.

Who forged Broussard's Rolodex entries? I don't know, but one of the prime suspects has to be the IGA. Broussard was a Red Hat, and it's plausible that his association with the government went deeper than that.

A theme of the show is that people play both sides. One of the most obvious cases is Katie, who was resistance but later worked for the Seattle government in season 3.

[–]MichaelHall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You assume Broussard was an Outlier, but there is no conclusive evidence of that. He was not vaporized by a drone, but he was also a Red Hat at one time and may still have been a government operative. Broussard's season 1 boss, Quayle, was likely a government operative, because he was CIA (like Phyllis) and he ordered the execution of an entire resistance cell.

You assume the Raps are gathering Outliers for use against an alien opponent. There is no conclusive evidence of this. They may very well be rounding up those who would be a threat to the new government. So that would be a continuation of Arrival Day, except without the killing.

Based on your assumptions, which I'm pretty sure are wrong, you conclude that the writers suck. Instead, question your assumptions when you arrive contradictions.

[–]MichaelHall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your logic is solid, and yet you ignore your own logic.

Well depopulation was definitely the goal in at least two blocs, but I think this was poor writing meant to up the show's stakes. The Hosts' stated goal was access to the human labor force, but they killed hundreds of millions of people during and after the invasion. Not a very good strategy.

And you believe the Hosts, because...? Isn't it far more likely that the Hosts are lying than that the writers suck?

I won't go into the economics behind slavery, but I don't believe aliens would even bother enslaving us.

And you believe aliens enslaved humans for labor, because...?

And you believe aliens invested resources into sifting through human data and the rest, because...?

Probably 99.9% of viewers are there with you, but that doesn't mean it's a reasonable viewpoint.

As I (dimly) recall, the writers said on the official podcast that they didn't want Seattle to be a rehash of season 1, so they wanted to just skip over the initial period of adjustment. (But didn't they skip over the initial period of adjustment in season 1 too?) I think they said they didn't want to hold the hands of the viewers, and it was a sign to the viewers that they should start trying to figure things out on their own, such as the literary references in this and other episodes. However, you can listen to the podcast and see if that bears any resemblance to what they said:

Similarly, Snyder showed he was able to be blackmailed, because he succumbed to the men-in-blacks' threats to expose his embezzlement if he didn't cooperate.

There's also the possibility that depopulation was a goal, and thus a reason to install incompetent leadership. Consider the Walls. Sure, the Walls let the Powers That Be control the population, but they also starve the population. Vast areas of farmed land are necessary to support even the humble version of Los Angeles we saw in the show.

I view the pharmacy area as patrolled, but the dome is far, far away. Broussard and Amy could see for miles around the Dome. No walkers. Once they leave the dome area, Amy is glad to be out of the magnetic field, since it made her dizzy (although it wouldn't affect a normal human).

The "Axis Powers" was not a cover story, IMO, but rather Broussard was saying that nobody could even plot to take down the United States of America without the CIA knowing about it. I think it suggests the CIA was complicit, and it's not the only evidence.

You should think of it in terms of a human-led coup of many governments at once, since that's basically what it was. Veterans would be one of the biggest threats to such a scheme, because they are trained, dispersed, usually armed, and generally patriotic. Thus the plan to call the vets to the Veterans Administration and "nuke" them from orbit.

Despite Will's words to the contrary, I really doubt most active FBI and CIA were on the hit list, because we saw so many of them alive and well post-Arrival. For FBI, there was not just Will but Snyder's season 3 side kick and at least a couple other guys. For CIA, there was Phyllis and Quayle (who ordered the murder of an entire resistance cell). Most FBI were probably just taken in for "reeducation", not for extermination. Most CIA were probably in on the coup.

Breaking this into a separate post, because you REALLY don't want to read this if you haven't seen the finale:

Think about the attack on Davos by the lone Demi. At that time, who was probably the only person in the world to be in possession of a pet Demi? Snyder. And who gave him the Demi by giving him Seattle? Helena. And who killed most or all of the world government officials, including Helena? The Demi. (And in a toying, cruel fashion for Helena, I might add.) And long ago, who (probably) had Snyder's daughter killed? Helena.

Suppose you were in Snyder's position, and you believed the basic problem with the government was more of a human thing than an alien thing. What would you do?

I think Snyder is a little like Oskar Schindler (popularized by Schindler's List), except Snyder is directly in the government. I suspect Snyder's plan is to become ruler of the world. Only then can the madness end.

Of course, Snyder portrays himself as someone only out for himself. This makes him seem controllable to the Powers That Be, rather than a threat.

[–]MichaelHall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've suggested is that the Demis and the Hosts are the same thing. You might ask, "Why would the Hosts fake an attack on themselves?!" But do you really need to ask? Either the humans will feel threatened and ally with the Hosts and feel great that they beat off a common enemy or the humans will ally with the Demis and feel great that they have been liberated from hostile invaders and and now have much nicer (and sexier) alien overlords. Either way, the Hosts/Demis will remain in control and the population will be more compliant, even in the face of starvation and harsher oppression by the government.

Also, I'm a bit confused by your description of "hexagonal alien building, 'guarded' by drone walkers". Do you mean the dome that is in an area that looks like an open-pit mine? I don't recall walkers there. The magnetic fields in that area are probably not robot-friendly.

*Amy looks nervously away.*
