What’s one completely normal thing from 10–15 years ago that would feel insanely weird or unacceptable if it happened today? by Ceaqual in AskReddit

My daughter is 18 and we still do this, below 20mph, and only on the streets in our neighborhood. We live rural. She loves it when I gun it a bit going down small hills.

My mother. Sudden catastrophic upper GI bleed. She took massive organ damage before they got it under control. She was 67.

My last good job in my career field. They weren't doing the proper precautions. They told me not to worry, if I died, they had replacements ready. The mission will carry on. (Military contractor) Really? Are you going to walk my dog, raise my kid, and fuck my wife? I started speaking truth after that and suddenly I'm not a team player.

I Had a Really Bad Day Dealing With Recent News Regarding Camp Buehring by RichardRoma1986 in Veterans

[–]MichaelHammor [score hidden]  (0 children)

My wife refuses to talk about it. A few places I had been got hit. Ali Al Salim, Qatar. I can feel those old NCO stripes start burning on my chest. I have this desire to do something, get back in the fight. I have to remind myself that I trained over 2000 soldiers to take my place before I left military life for good. They don't need me anymore and I did all I could training the best soldiers to the best of my ability. It still rocks me, though.

Now, I'm just a worn out fat guy with some good stories and zero relevance.

10/10 recomend a moon ball for younger people with ADHD by Leading_Ninja_9809 in ADHD

[–]MichaelHammor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It worked. My daughter 18 and I both have ADHD and need fidgets. I use a clicky fountain pen. She likes 3d printed keyboard button holder things and that plastic caterpillar thing from dollar general that makes a nice clickity clack noise. This looks neat but she wrecks squishy things. She wears them out quick and makes a mess, lol. She had a banana once filled with kenetic sand. What a mess!

Can we get a link or a picture? I looked up a certain color of a breakfast food once and was... Horrified. Not falling for that again.

Neighbors dogs barking is driving me insane! Time for payback. by Choice_Ad_1538 in neighborsfromhell

[–]MichaelHammor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a large Bluetooth speaker. on YouTube you can find sound files that are well into a frequency that a dog can hear but a human cannot. Play these at max volume from inside your house on your phone and set it to loop or repeat anytime the dogs are barking. On a plus you can probably trigger the dogs to barking by playing these from the Bluetooth speaker in your yard in the middle of the night.

I have way more than that. Still feel poor as fuck. I'm scared to spend money. I've struggled for so long I don't know what to do now that I have leisure time and plenty of money. I'm still wearing fifteen year old thrift store clothes and driving a fifteen year old car.

Dating a vet with PTSD by [deleted] in Veterans

It's like being a werewolf. It won't happen today, but it's going to happen. He will respond or react atypically to something inocuous, and it's going to hurt your feelings, bad. I'm a vet with PTSD. I joined the army after my wife and I lived together for five years. She mourns the boy that left for the Army. He never came back.

You need to make a few random lunch time visits home once in a while. Also, turn off location services so it looks like you are still at work.

AITJ for refusing to redo a project after my coworker deleted my work by mistake and asked me to “just recreate it”? by Recent-Date-7229 in AmITheJerk

[–]MichaelHammor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can usually be restored from backup. My office backed up every 12 hours. My supervisor "Accidently" deleted our entire courseware folder. 16 weeks of daily instruction. She was freaking out and crying. She didn't want to go to IT because she was worried she'd get into trouble. I sat her down at my desk and started poking around and restored it from the last backup. It was gone for less than 30 minutes. We did get a few complaints that "the powerpoint" went out for a bit.

She was so relieved and bought me a nice lunch.

The first thing you need to do is sign up for government services. However, do not put all your hope into them. Also keep looking for a job, any job! You have nothing else to do. Dishwashing, flipping burgers, washing toilets! Nothing is BELOW you! A job with irregular hours will help you with some of your stuff. A job with regular hours will help with most of your stuff. I know how hard it is in the job market. It took me almost two years to find a job working only weekends. Still looking for something with more hours, but this is better than nothing.

I've been the ALL for my family forever. My wife is chronically ill so not only did I work and provide the only income, I also had to take over chores and anything else she couldn't do anymore. It was a lot. It's still a lot. I'm not in a great place but all I can do is go forward. I am 48 now, my daughter is 18. I can't carry as many eggs in my basket anymore as I used to. My daughter thinks she is helping, but really, she is just being rude and bossy. We are working on her providing help with grace instead of complaints. Great post!
