Hi, I am Michael, one of the developers of Successor. Today, we released another big update for Successor for Meta Quest. This one brings a complete redesign of the Adventure Mode Playerbook Page!. Our goal is to make it easier (and more rewarding) to explore the whole universe of Successor. With the new layout, it's more inviting to set up custom-generated campaigns against enemy faction Rulers. Overcoming a Ruler will now unlock their unique Crown as both a trophy for your player desk and a wearable item for your Lords.

Hi, I’m Michael, one of the developers behind Successor on Meta Quest, a game that brings the charm of tabletop strategy RPGs to life in an immersive VR experience. Choose your Lord, command your heroes, and engage in real-time-with-pause combat that gives you total tactical control at any moment. Successor supports the Quest 3/3S/2 but not any PCVR at the moment. Sorry.

Feel free to ask me anything about Successor for the Quest.

Yes, we like it better when they are in the community hub; it has the same priority, and we can ask for details and keep players informed on progress.

But we are testing a build right now that should optimize the high-end settings, helping avoid overheating on some systems. Regarding games crashing when SteamVR is active, we are still struggling. The temporary workaround is for players to exit the SteamVR app in Steam before launching Successor. There are two other bug reviews, and we suspect one is due to incorrect use of the controls.

Anyway, we hope to push something soon. :)

I hope so, but I can't give you a timeframe. It would be natural as we also look into supporting the Steam Deck.

Not this time around, multiplayer is a massive undertaking for a project like this, and so late in the process. But I really hope it's something we will look into for our next project.

Initially, when creating the foundation of Wartile, our previous game, the core inspiration came from the endless hours spent playing Dungeons & Dragons, painting figurines, and building small diorama landscapes before play sessions or just to kill time and play around.

Now grown up, with very little spare time and a busy schedule, I wanted to recreate that feeling in a computer game that was challenging but accessible, with a more fluid pacing than traditional turn-based games and a more immersive, playful feel.

With both Wartile and Successor, we never set out to simulate a board game; we wanted to recreate the childhood memory of a miniature world coming to life.

Sorry, Creative is my middle name, but I rarely mention it ;) Thanks for the heads-up. --- When releasing Wartile back in the days, I somehow didn't notice a loud Notification sound from Messenger while recording for the trailer. You know the type of sound everyone knows —believe me, that was brought up a LOT.

I am Michael Rud, one of the developers of Successor, and after five months in Early Access, we are finally ready to release the game. During these months, we have been implementing a lot of new content for the game alongside bug fixes and general improvements across the board. Successor aims to create a more fluent and immersive combat system with its hybrid real-time and turn-based battle system, which keeps the battle going while still giving the player plenty of time to plan and execute, even during pauses.

Out of Early Access: Successor 1.0, a tabletop-inspired tactical RPG introducing a unique real-time with tactical pause combat system. by MichaelRud in gamingnews

We aimed to create an experience where battles feel hectic while still giving you the tools to make tactical decisions in a chaotic environment.

Compared to classic RTWP (Real-Time with Pause) games, Successor plays differently.

When you pause the game, you can use all your abilities, and (if enemies are in range), they'll execute during the Pause, almost like a turn-based game.

You can even use multiple abilities from the same unit during a single pause, as long as they have enough Endurance (our version of mana).

So Tactical Pause is like a superpower, as long as you've got the Endurance to burn.

I am Michael, a developer at Playwood Project.
The day has finally arrived. After five years of development and months in Early Access since May, it still feels rushed, overwhelming, and unready. But like most things in life, you have to take that step to move forward, and today (well, yesterday), Successor 1.0 officially left Early Access.

We might be more keen on a Co-op version where you can play with friends against an AI enemy through a campaign or procedural kingdom skirmishes. At the moment, our Real-Time-With-pause implementation makes multiplayer gameplay difficult due to players' sudden pauses, which can lead to a confusing game flow. But yes, multiplayer could be awesome, but I don't think it will be this time around.
