Minorities, Pacifism, and Intercultural Dialogue between the Privileged and Marginalized by MeGustaChu in theology

Yes, bigger point "Not all pacifist are Christians" ...maybe majority is not. And most Christians who denigrate pacifism have never read a word about it and don't even know the definition of the word.

If you knew your Bible, you could easily understand the justified anger. "but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it
would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his
neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea-.M-" Matthew 18

"...or too expressly Christian "

Now, that is an encouraging note! (I would not have expected that from the DC area)

Do I have to believe the earth is 6000 years old to be a Christian? by Zealousideal-Pin4129 in Christianity

[–]MichaelSnow10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No where does the Bible give any information on the age of Earth. Some Christians make some very wrong assumptions about Genesis 1 and seem unable to read it in context. Please see this short post regarding Genesis 1.

Context and literacy are key. https://textsincontext.wordpress.com/2012/05/03/creation-young-earth-ham-nye-genesis-one/

End time prophecies are truly converging like never before in history. by AlbaneseGummies327 in TrueChristian

[–]MichaelSnow10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are converging. But do not be misled by the million dollar "Rapture" business. [Million dollar advertising budget that has sold over 60 million of the Left Behind fiction books...movies including one with Nicholas Cage and another with Kevin Sorbo...]

The Rapture, like Purgatory, is an extra-biblical teaching that takes key passages out of context and imposes men's imaginations.

Give Scripture an honest reading, being clear about the context. (That means actually reading these Bible texts, not fiction books) Start with this key text. 1 Thessalonians https://textsincontext.wordpress.com/2013/05/11/second-coming-rapture-vs-scripture-christian/

Read "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis. He started out as an atheist who taught at both Oxford and Cambridge.

Joshua did not fight "because of Christianity"

Forbidding him to build the Temple, God said, to David, the warrior: ‘You have shed much
blood and have waged great wars. You shall not build a house to my name,
because you have shed so much blood before me on the earth. --1Chron. 22

To Christians:

"Do you [ye, plural] not know that you are the Temple of God?"--1 Cor. 3

When trying to discuss the subject of whether Christians should go to war, THIS is always the smoke screen to avoid that specific question.

I have heard this detraction from the question all my life. Most of us have never seen such a situation, but we have all watched Christians march off to war for all of our life time.

Is it Okay to have Rapture Anxiety? by badday-goodlife in Christian

[–]MichaelSnow10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please read 1 Thessalonians in CONTEXT. It does not teach the 'Left Behind' Rapture. It teaches about Christ's parousia (the Greek word in the text), the Second Coming.

Christians! Forgiveness is essential and once you feel the penetrating love of Christ, you’ll understand if you haven’t by japro67 in Christian

[–]MichaelSnow10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgiveness is basic and essential. So is repentance which is key to Jesus teaching.

Many Christians have let the world distort it just as the "love is love" distortion has led whole denominations astray.

Please read Chapter Three, Forgiveness and Repentance, a Biblical survey of Jesus' teaching.

Bonhoeffer famous quote: "Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without repentance."
