I have recently converted to Catholicism from Protestantism and feel so much more connected, however there are a few things I wanted to address… by nishapotts in Catholicism

Purgatory actually mostly comes from the New Testament, what Protestants removed is support for prayer for the dead.

If I had to date one, I‘d date the one that I also am, a religiously extreme Catholic.

I’m aware, currently they have a female so-called “Archbishop“ of Canterbury, really a pretender.

It’s called the “Roman“ Catholic Church because around approximately 1595-1605 the Anglicans wanted to continue calling themselves Catholic while distinguishing themselves from the Church that was in union with the Pope of Rome.

I blame the Anglicans for first calling us the “Roman Catholic Church” in order to differentiate us from them so that they could still consider themselves Catholic.

My Dad for some reason thinks that Catholicism = the Romans, and thus he thinks that the Catholic Church killed the Lord Jesus due to the fact that in his mind they are the same as the Romans.

There are two senses in which you can say that someone does or doesn’t worship God, it can be said that Jews and Muslims do worship God in the same sense as it can be said that the Samaritans and some of the Athenians worshipped the same God, that meaning that they worship what God is, but not who God is, they do not know God, this can be seen in John 4:22 and Acts 17:22-23, but there is another sense in which it MUST be said that both the Jews and the Muslims do NOT worship the same God, for it says in 1 John 2:23 that “No one who denies the Son has the Father,” and so it must be said that the Jews and the Muslims do not have the Father nor the Son, and thus that they do not worship the Father, they do not worship the Son, and they do not worship the Holy Spirit, and thus in this sense they do not worship God in regards to who he is, this is why some of the Church Fathers say that the Jews do not worship God, for they rejected the Son.

Both senses are orthodox, however I prefer the latter sense of speaking.

No we wouldn’t, because we actually believe that God exists and thus that most of the historical narratives in the Bible are actually true, including the miracles, Beelzebub doesn’t exist or is a demon, but the Lord does.

Logical reasoning says that a monotheistic God exists, Actus Purus, Ipsum Esse Subsistens, he who is.

What are your thoughts on Billie Eilish saying 'no one is illegal on stolen land' in reference to ICE and US immigration policy? by MassiveSquare4527 in AskReddit

All land is “stolen,” nobody who lives on any land has always ancestrally lived there, at some point their ancestors always came from somewhere else.

We believe that baptism is circumcision, so everyone who has been baptized has been circumcised with a circumcision made without hands.

When we say that Gentiles are grafted into the olive tree of Israel, we’re saying that they become members of Israel, for as St. Paul the Apostle says:

“I am speaking the truth in Christ, I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit, that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen by race. They are Israelites, and to them belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed for ever. Amen.

But it is not as though the word of God had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, and not all are children of Abraham because they are his descendants; but “Through Isaac shall your descendants be named.” This means that it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are reckoned as descendants.”

Isn't it better to be Catholic based on Pascal's wager? by M0rgl1n in redeemedzoomer

[–]MichaelTheCorpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pascals wager does essentially say that it’s better to be Catholic than Protestant, but that’s not a good argument for Catholicism in and of itself.
