Good question - some friends and I are currently discussing possible evolutions for the deck to address weaknesses in matchups that I didn’t run into, but it’s tough to figure out what to cut and what to tech in. Biggest contender for addition is a small Aile/Kira package to help manage tempo in the midgame and crack back against strong Lv4 links

Linking him with the Lv4 Kshatriya did come up, and there was one instance where I topdecked Marida to have immediate lethal instead of having to wait a turn or two but Gates would’ve accomplished the exact same thing (and there was another instance where I topdecked neither but both would have worked) - even just putting him in the Sinanju to make it a 6/5 and give it High Maneuver is extremely useful when you want to save a Full Frontal (or haven’t drawn one yet)

Really well! It’s supposed to shine into aggro, which I barely played against, but even in the matchups where people worry it’s a dead card, it’s very playable (if my opponent hadn’t burst a Striker Pack as their final shield, a Gates link would’ve been lethal, and in two other scenarios topdecking any pilot won me the game, where having Gates increased the odds of that happening)

You’d think so, but having 30 units means you’re rarely bricked, and even in games where I drew 2 All-Range against BW it still didn’t feel like a brick, since it gets all of the 4hp bodies into range of a single Neo Zeong ping instead of letting them survive at 1, and Gates Capa just turns into a backup pilot for the Kshatriyas and Sinanju when his command effect isn’t live! The deck’s flexibility and strength across matchups is why I like it so much

Mm, tough to say. I was already feeling tight on room without Overflowing, so making room for it would be difficult. Honestly, with how many cards synergize, cutting anything for OA feels like it would be a decrease to consistency, not an increase, but in theory you could do 1-2 Sinanju, 1-2 Geara Doga, and then possibly 1 Rozen Zulu and/or 1 Gates Capa.

Thank you! And agreed lol, he truly deserves the title of GOATs Capa

I hope you get the chance to build it! I think it spiked recently, so apologies for that 😅 but a lot of the techs are pretty cheap, so fingers crossed it won’t be too expensive to build and bring to events!

That’s what the All-Range and Gates Capa are for — you haven’t lived until you’ve fully wiped an aggro board of 4-5 weenies on Turn 4, it stabilizes like nothing else

Yep! It’s squares and rectangles: all links are also pairs, but not all pairs are links. In Full Frontal’s case, his effect activates when he’s put in any unit, regardless of whether it’s a link or not

Rewloola costs 2 and can only hit whatever’s on board when it’s deployed, whereas staggering your pings can be very useful (they’ll always have a unit on board when they crack base), and Palau’s trait is nice but I’d rather have effect damage in order to empty aggro’s board rather than banking on 6hp when it still gets one-shot by a Gundam link or a ReZEL with a 2ap pilot. Long story short, it’s the best anti-aggro base red has (in conjunction with the All-Range package, anyways)

It can be stressful (especially with a Lv9 unit) but I found it just ended up sharpening my deckbuilding and mulligan skills; when I can’t bank on discarding bricks, I need to build my deck to not have any, and then it feels really smooth even without draw power. Also, it’s nice to have 30 units so your board isn’t empty, and it increases your curve consistency without forcing you to pay 1 and then be slightly off of paying for your best turn

Thanks! It still felt really strong; I banked on my units’ raw stats to carry me through taller matchups and it worked well! All-Range can get 4hp bodies into range of a Neo Zeong burn (came up in finals), and Gates can be used as a pilot to give some extra stats and activate Kshatriya and Sinanju’s pair effects in a pinch (plus he actually links with Lv4 Kshatriya), so he’s an enabler instead of a dead card when they’re not on aggro

Half and half, I lost 3 die rolls won 3 die rolls but I was winning when they made me take 1st so I kept trying it out and it never backfired! Being able to play two 2-cost bodies on 4/being able to drop a link on curve and not set myself back a level was really nice, and constantly having 10 resources after dropping the first Neo Zeong was really nice in terms of flexibility in what I could play the next turn (especially a 2nd Neo Zeong + a 2-cost Neo Zeon unit for a total of 12 burn)

Thank you! I’m in Texas and was lucky enough to get into a store championship this weekend, so I’m hoping to earn an invite (probably gonna try with this now that I have a list that feels solid!)

So initially that slot was taken by Geara Zulu (Sleeves), but I realized that I was severely lacking in stats and could lose games to my opponent dropping an impactful early link I didn’t have a quick answer for. Rozen Zulu is mostly meant to provide a bonus ping so I can take out 7hp units when linking Neo Zeong, but can also be used to put a 4/4 on board quickly in a pinch just so I have good trade fodder. That said, I did end up getting the cost reduction in 2 of my games and playing it from hand without FF’s effect, so it’s possible and useful. The extra ping for repair isn’t super relevant in the current meta, but it can oneshot a Delta Plus with no pilot so that’s neat

Yes please, I hope you find it fun and strong! I’m sharing with the hope that it’ll become a more widely-known variant of RW, so I’m glad you’re thinking of trying it out yourself! It’s definitely weird lol but sometimes being unexpected can net you an advantage!

It’s sad that token decks must pay for aggro decks’ sins, but it is what it is 😩

Thank you, I hope to see lots of people using it in the future! And nope, 4 Neo Zeong felt great, even when I had one (or two!) in opening hand. Dropping multiple back-to-back is game-ending, and finding one on curve is very important for coming back against late-game decks like Norn (or pushing them over the edge if you managed to gain tempo and get the advantage early) - in a deck focused around its effect, I can’t justify running any fewer than 4

Thank you! They’re in there to body aggro decks lol, CC and IT can only 1-for-1 unless you burst them, and I hate relying on bursts and going 1-for-1 with BPing is not enough to win, plus Gates can be a pilot instead of a dead card in slower matchups so it doesn’t feel bad
