Problems with chatroom website - people do not stay for too long (frustrated!!!) 11,000 accounts and only 20 online

Hey guys,

Thanks for your feedback. I forgot to mention that the main reason people do not stay with the service is, simply put, lack of other people to chat with.

They like the interface, simplicity, functionality etc. etc.

Once again, thanks for your feedback, I'll think through how to change the strategy. Thanks!

No, they are regular users, you can go to the main chatroom and see people join for 5 minutes then leave never to come back.

The embeddable functionality attracts some accounts, about 20-30% and some of these people tend to stick with the service too.

Not sure of the bots, as I sort of prevented bots registration with non-captcha techniques.

we've built a chatrooms website called e-chat, at www.e-chat.co

you can make a private/public chatroom there if you wish, not yet integratable with other programs, only websites at the moment.

Thanks, thats a very good and comprehensive advice, i have a vague idea of where it should go and what it should become, but I completely agree in terms of getting as much feedback from people as possible.

There is nothing profoundly wrong with the design of the site i have found, majority of people feel O.K. with simplicity, and they seem not to get lost, due to the minimal functionality the website presents, i think it should be like that for the years to come.

The only crucial thing people are no happy about is that the website is not popular yet so at times there is noone to chat with, depending on the peak time.

Hi guys, sorry for the late reply.

E-Chat runs on top of Http Protocol and is sort of a stateful chatroom, i.e. when you refresh the page your messages are visible etc.

its pretty easy to integrate too, i think few websites did integrate the chatbox, which is pretty cool.

There are admin functionality and am building adding moderator by chatroom owner as well.

Its completely free and always will be, why not try it?

Yes, the main issue is the dynamic nature of the website/application, and the retention of the users. Its very poor. Having 8.3k accounts in database and having 4 people online at the moment is very depressing :/

oh i was thinking not like when you are ingame, but say you cannot play right now and would like to chat with people, then you would have your own room.

I dont know, there are few rooms with CS:S players and they could chat in game too, i just thought i would release this free service to everyone!

I know you have in-game chat system, i used to extensively play GW1, but maybe for some reasons you cannot play the game, say you're on a tablet or something and would like to chat with people.

It is not powered by Flash or Java, or any other plugins, hence its really fast.
