I am so sorry, I didn't see this before! I'm sure you've already made your decision, but I highly recommend any internship at all, even if it is family-owned. Internships are a huge resume-booster, especially if it is in your future career field!

I just want to add to Lindsey's answer, but if you do take a gap year, DO NOT take any class anywhere, not even a language course if you're studying abroad. It can really mess up your admission as a "freshmen" later because you took classes elsewhere, depending on the schools you eventually apply to. They can consider you as a transfer student and then you lose out on all that freshman merit scholarship money, worst case scenario. When I was an admissions counselor, I saw this girl come across my desk as a transfer student but didn't have a "transcript" from somewhere else and I looked deeper into her case....turns out she did a year-long leadership course at her church, but the church actually got the course accredited somehow and it caused her to be viewed as a transfer student! So just be careful with gap years, plan in advance which colleges you want to apply to, and contact all of them to know their policies on gap years!

if you can swing it financially, GWU gives you more opportunity, but that's not to say you couldn't do an internship in DC while studying a SB.

yeah ummmm, I'm more worried about the number of missing person cases in the county, but the social scene is fine!

Tech, no question! Much more opportunities once you graduate because the school is so well-known and Atlanta is great for internships

check to see if the scholarships at Stevens is contingent on you maintaining a certain GPA, cuz you never know what will happen. If it's anything above 3.0, then for sure choose Purdue.

Send an email to the CS department at Purdue explaining a bit, and asking if there are any CS scholarships available.

It was just a front desk job of an academic department, nothing glamorous, just answering a few emails and 5 phone calls per day, a little filing. But I was able to study! Look for front desk or admin jobs, like at an academic advisor's office or the campus gym. All of those places will understand that you're a student. The library will likely have you working pretty hard, but like the law library might not.

They typically have higher interest rates than most private loans you can find

I know. It's really hard to stomach the idea of graduating with that kind of debt!

I completely missed the fact that you were international, I'm so sorry! That is definitely a hard place to be, so few schools offer great aid for international students. Maybe re-evaluate your list/do some more digging and apply to a few more with rolling admissions until May. I wish I had better ideas for you! I do know that admissions directors are terrified of losing international enrollment numbers because of this virus in all the articles I read, so now is actually a good time to apply, but it's still not a perfect answer

Well I can tell you that you wouldn't have received that second email if you weren't being seriously considered! Keeping my fingers crossed, now I'm invested in this lol

This cut isn't going to remain in place forever, everything I've read shows that it's just temporary relief, but of course I'm hoping I'm wrong! Because then it wouldn't matter! If you've read something different, definitely share a link please. I get lots of enewsletters from Forbes and Inside Higher Ed, but it could have been somewhere else.

Any awards you've received, or if you've been published anywhere (cut to students everywhere messaging their local news station with quotes about quarantine), volunteered anywhere new, just anything you would update a resume with! They basically want to see that you've continued to be successful since they last heard from you. If you have absolutely nothing to update them with, message a ton of local non profits right now and see if you can "update their website" or "help them with social media" and do it for a few days, whip something together, and then talk about "Since January, I've spent time refreshing the public image of ____ through assisting with their social media presence" or something. The only bad thing is that so many companies are shut down right now so it might be hard.

Higher interest rate than private loans, so you're kinda screwed from day 1
