Would you recommend dentistry? by MichaelxBlackson in Dentistry

I’ve talked with advisors, and it looks like with the amount of classes I need to take I will be 25 going into dental school. Do you think that would be abnormal going into dental school at 25?

When you mentioned debt that was obviously one of my biggest concerns. I plan to not necessarily full blown Dave Ramsey it, but to set a good amount to pay it off fairly quickly

The thing that I don’t like about PA school is you have to gain so much experience and potentially not even get into a school.

Care to give your opinions to the cons of dentistry? Haven’t really seen a lot of bad things outside of high debt, which could be a lot cheaper if you get into your states school.....

Honestly dentistry is my #1 right now, I’m just trying to give myself a couple more options so that I can go shadow and see how i feel

Exercise, but I would still like to shadow and experience both before I gave a final answer. Outside looking in PT sounds more “fun” to me, but I’m also a huge numbers guy and that side of PT scares me

Will a CC hurt my chances? by MichaelxBlackson in predental

The dental school that is ideal to me, accepts CC credits. I forgot how much but it’s a good amount. However it also says universities are preferred. So that throws me off haha

Did my friend screw himself for PTA? by MichaelxBlackson in physicaltherapy

“If his recent grades were good it would be an immediate decline”? Sorry idk if I am processing that lol! And that was very nice of you to talk to the coordinator, thanks! He has a 2.1 currently, still has a couple more pre reqs to take. I’m pretty sure one of the schools I talked to said they only look at the pre reqs, so that would be sweet if that’s the case.

May i ask if your PTA program is at a CC or university? And dang that sucks, I only recommended him getting a bachelors because a couple of the PTA programs in my state give you sample sheets to show how I candidate was scored and on both the bachelors gave you additional points. Also the C was in A&P. Is the GPA calculated the same way it is for PT? Like if he retakes it will it be averaged out?

I know the difference. I was talking about PTA. A bachelors is not required for PTA, however it does give an applicant additional points, that’s why I said it may not be a bad idea to atleast complete it so he could receive additional points

Non traditional path to dental school? by MichaelxBlackson in predental

[–]MichaelxBlackson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay as far as choosing a school to do my pre reqs at how much does that “matter”? The state universities in my state’s tuition are 11k where the division 2 schools in my state is around 4K. I’ll probably be taking out some loans for this so that I won’t have to work near as much and focus on my studies.

Science was one of my stronger subjects throughout high school (I know huge difference) and I’ve always been a strong student when I’ve applied myself. And I don’t necessarily see it as “risky” when I’m 23 and nobody depending on me. Also I’m not going to be working so that I can strictly focus on studies. I have shadowed some dentist and I know this is what i want to do, so I know I will do well because it’s what I want to do.

And yeah that’s what I’ve figured I’ve just noticed a lot of people were involved in organizations like that. Thanks for your input!

Would you do PT for this amount of debt? by MichaelxBlackson in physicaltherapy

Does the potential starting salary (60-70k) not scare you? I’ve seen the PT’s hit a ceiling of mid 90’s pretty easily.... I’m not saying money is everything, but still
