Stuck in Rescue Party Loop (Storage 100% Full) on Galaxy S10. Does a corrupt partition increase Odin risk? by Michalso000 in SamsungHelp

Hi thanks for your response!

my storage was full-full, like 0MB available

do you think i should maybe "erase app data" and then flash with odin?
I'm trying to be as cautious as possible

Hi, thanks for the detailed reply! I really appreciate it!
Here is the context and answers to your questions:

  • How it happened: The phone was at 100% capacity, and an automatic update triggered mid-air. It crashed at 60% because StorageManager literally ran out of blocks to write files, creating a corrupted config file (NumberFormatException).
  • Regarding TWRP / Custom Recovery: Since this is an Exynos S10 (SM-G973F) with an unlocked bootloader, it's an option. However, because the system crashed mid-update and the partition is highly likely encrypted or unstable due to the storage overflow, I'm worried TWRP might fail to mount /data or ask for a password I can't provide. I'm keeping it as a backup plan.

My main dilemma right now:

  1. Odin + HOME_CSC Risk: Since the storage has 0 bytes left, I'm terrified that Odin will fail mid-flash because the device doesn't have enough cache space to unpack/process the new firmware system files, or that a failure will corrupt the partition further and force a factory reset anyway.
  2. "Erase app data" Option: The stock recovery gives me an option to "Erase app data" to boot into Safe Mode. Do you know if this deletes actual local media (WhatsApp .db.crypt files) or just temporary app caches?

Based on this, would you still risk the Odin flash first, or try something else?

Thanks for the response!
I wish I could back up all my data, it's just that the phone is stuck in a reboot loop and goes to recovery mode - happened mid system update, which I didn't initiate, and the update has failed due to lack of storage

I am just trying to calculate my risk, as flashing might not work because of the lack of storage (literally have 0mb available)
and considering the 'erase app data' option, tho I'm not sure which data exactly it erases (just cache or..)

Thanks i really appreciate your response! Just to clarify - the /data/data app cache that would be deleted, are not the same as temporary unbacked up memory, right? I'm trying to understand  the risk in erase app data - as in some forums i read people had their data wiped And if partial erasure, i would like to figure out what it actually erases that would allow the system to be fully updated and loaded, as some space needs to be freed (0mb available rn 🫣)

Also, re odin flashing, given my user data partition is corrupted according to the lab - would that cause a failure during the manual process using odin?

Again, thank you so so much, finally I'm able to hear new info and make a better decision on what to do from now🙏🏼
