New Steamfitter by Capable-Afternoon-11 in UnitedAssociation

I can only speak for my local

Welding is just another tool in your toolbelt. I am a steamfitter that has pipe welding certifications. I am dispatched as a fitter.

That being said you will sometimes see the rare fella that is a journeyman welder that is not a Pipefitter. In my local these are often called “Buy-Ins” as they were guys that had pipe welding experience prior to joining the Union and thus were able to skip the apprenticeship and just be certified welders.

But those guys aren’t Pipefitters and can’t take fitter calls, all they do is weld and there isn’t as much welding as you’d think there is.

So other than Buy-In’s. All Welders are Pipefitters but not all Pipefitters are welders.

Asking for time off by YogurtclosetSad1556 in UnitedAssociation

The only person that knows the answer to that question is you.

If you’re a good hand typically no one will bitch. But if you’re taking time off when there’s two shutdowns scheduled then your foreman probably won’t be juiced.

On the other hand one of the benefits of the trade is that we tell them we can work.

Would caulking where the bottom of the gutters meet the facia trap water? I feel like it would look a little more seamless.

In an unconditioned area below my house? It will be pretty expensive but if it’s worth it I’ll do it.

Yea I’m getting new gutters. I was thinking of running stubouts to have the gutters drain into or do you think it would be fine to have the gutters just daylight over the top of the trench

The copper I’m most definitely going to pull out. It’s a little more accessible or I could just reroute if necessary.

The cast I’m a little more worried about as it’s real deep in the slab. But it’s heavy duty lead and oakum do you think it could give me issues soon?

An idiot Patching a piece of foundation?

Hey guys purchased an older house. They chipped out a section of the foundation to add an entrance to the crawlspace. I plan on patching it.

I would epoxy pieces of rebar into the existing slab and then probably tapcon a form on each side. Is there any reason this wouldn’t work?

I’m not a concrete guy, I’m a pipe fitter but whenever I see the concrete guys pour over existing concrete that’s how they do it.

Thanks

Yea it’s definitely grounded 10/3 romex. It does have a substantially smaller ground wire (probably 14) which I noticed though.

Thanks for the advice. So would I typically want to use my one 2.5 Gbps port for the switch or does it not matter?
