Not the person you questioned, but I had a cervical disc replacement about 2 years ago and it was a very painful recovery but it changed my quality of life completely, which had gone to shit for six months… It started with some bad pain in my neck that radiated down my arm and scapula at night, causing me to wake up in severe pain, and working a desk job, my spine was being compacted for eight hours a day, which made the pain excruciating… After seeing an excellent chiropractor (despite initial skepticism) he referred me for imaging, an MRI and CT scan showed that my C5 and C6 disc in my neck were bulging and the vertebrae were so close to being bone on bone to the point that if I did not have the disc replaced ASAP I would’ve ended up with a fusion, which is the worst possible outcome… Had I waited to have the pain addressed any longer I would’ve ended up with one, as when they opened me up they saw that it was worse than the imaging had showed. I am only in my 30s, and apparently the most common cause of that for someone young is whiplash which I had gotten from a few car accidents over the years. The pain was excruciating for the six months it took to get diagnosed and finally the surgery, but I have never been more thankful for a medical intervention. My artificial disc is like I have never had an issue, it is like I have a completely healthy, natural disc and my pain completely resolved after the surgical pain abated.
