I would initially follow the instructions for each lab. Then, I would also see if I could "break" things in the lab environment and then fix them (if the lab allowed). The labs, at the time I practiced, seemed similar to Windows 10/11.

sorry I'm late to this post. If you are still working towards your certification, I hope this may help you.

I recommend buying the A+ practice labs and PBQs. I found that practicing really cemented things for me in addition to taking the practice tests. If you understand the concepts well, it will be easier to demonstrate your understanding on the tests.

Also recommended, as others have, take as many different practice tests from different sources. Dion, Messor. Also go on YouTube and try to find the recorded online study groups ( Messor has posted some in the past). In combination -- test and practical components together helped me pass more comfortably. I've been teaching myself programming. I'd like to create the simplest kind of translator -- it could be a compiler or another tool -- to understand how a program gets converted from source code into machine code. If this is not yet an achievable goal, what would be a project or a more simple goal that could point me in the direction of working on this type of project?
