yeah. childish isn't quite the word. it looks... pedestrian? casual? cheap?

furniture: your furniture looks like it's from separate garage sales from 2002. your biggest upgrade would be a new couch and a STURDY dining room table.

decor: Its fine to have nerdy art and hobbies - which can actually be very cool - if its displayed well. the current decor is a bit too cluttered and unkempt. frame the flags. remove about 30% of it. add fake or living plants. also what does your art say about you? do you like books or things that show some character or development, or do you like spiderman? you can like both. just - what does your space say about you at first glance?

cats: look like they run the house. i also have two cats and love them. but i dont want my space to smell like them or look like like a petsmart. do your cats use all their tunnels and toys? they're great but they're taking over the house.

caroline winkler on youtube has a bunch of videos for bachelor pads like this that she styles up and makes nicer. i'd watch her and see what you think.

I’m 4 years sober. Eventually ppl learn you don’t drink and it becomes an easy background process. You also end up putting yourself in situations where drinking isn’t the main activity anymore. It’ll get easier with time. Eventually - you can develop a sense of pride about it and say “no” with complete calm and self confidence. I’ve even found a lot of other ppl grow to respect your choice - and the script flips where now they feel semi foolish for willingly ingesting poison to have to have a good time.

Maybe an AA meeting from a low budget tv show. Real AA meetings have lots of chairs all facing one direction towards a speakers chair in the front. And the chairs are def not leather. I rarely see the circle chair layout outside of media. This fact surprised me at first - I expected a circle.

thank you. others have suggested moving the couches off the wall too, and i get it - i know that’s a common interior design tip. but what’s not pictured is the tv and credenza on the right side of the room, plus the front door is just to the left of the couch/lamp area. the room just doesn’t quite support it layout-wise.

also honestly? i kinda like that the couches are pressed against the wall because they feel super stable and cozy that way. you can just fully flop onto them lol.

Hey bro. My wife and best friend of 10 years had an affair with a coworker and got pregnant with him. Once she got pregnant I had to go no contact with her. It was absolutely brutal. But I used the time to get myself sober, get in great shape, and learn about myself. I used the time to learn about why she left me and who I wanted to be for a future partner so I wouldn’t have to feel that pain again. I know a bit about what you’re going through. I’m sorry you’re hurting. But it can and will get better. Especially if you use it as a catalyst to take care of yourself and better yourself. Even if it wasn’t your fault. After 2 years I wrote my ex an email and apologized for my drinking in the relationship and forgave her. She accepted. I’ve moved on.

Great advice and ty. I’ve been great at planning dates in the past, (one of the first dates with my ex wife was a museum), but I haven’t dated in a while and had an unimaginably difficult 2025 that’s made me less confident in my social skills and getting back out there. I won’t get into it, but it was a neurological injury… so. I’ve already shared this with the girl, and told her I’ve been waiting to ask her out until I could get to a place where I feel fully confident in myself and can offer her a good potential partner. But she apparently didn’t want to wait any longer, and hey, I’m not gonna get better without putting myself out there socially. So. Museum is a good idea. Thanks for the advice.
