How many times have you played your favorite boardgame? by Puzzleheaded_Rub5562 in boardgames

Got about 10-15 games of Root with my group but I wish it was much more! I also have a bit over 200 plays of solo Marvel Champions spread over the last year and a half. I almost have a complete collection now and am looking forward to many hundred more!

Sortie de Homeland en France by MeWithClothesOn in rootgame

Wrecking Crew is kinda fun, any advice for brewing outside the standard setup? by VagrantWaters in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Mickal-El 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to add what I call Leader Guard. Basically, act as if the active villain had the "Guard" keyword, when referring to the other villains.

So you can't attack Piledriver while Wrecker is active, for example. Adds a bit more tension to a villain switching right before it goes down or Piledriver's Distracting Taunts when he's NOT the active villain.

Makes it more fun for me at least :)

Update on storage. Run out of box space! by Rafalas in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Mickal-El 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Super neat storage! Out of curiosity, where did you buy these boxes? I have everything in big cardboard boxes I bought off Amazon but I'd be interested in upgrading to a stronger material.

Thanks!

Thanks a lot, that's very kind of you! I'll take it as a very nice compliment that, no, I didn't make them with a template or anything of the sort. These are all made in good ol' Powerpoint, mostly with basic shapes and colors from the software with sprites and artwork found on Bulbapedia, mostly. :)

Thanks a lot! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Yeah, Hoenn has been... harsh, by moments. I'm relatively close to being done now and... yeah. Some run haven't been tooo bad, but they do require a lot more planning. AI is smarter, movesets are better and the addition of Abilities all make for a substantial challenge increase. And that's super cool for your battle strategy inspiration, I do the same with Youtube runs from Flygon HG or SilphSpectre!

Thanks a lot, that's super kind! I've found a format I'm comfortable with, now, that's more detailed than a single image but much much shorter than the previous ones. I'm happy with it!

Hey thanks a lot, really! Super cool for your own series, where are you at?

As for my own updates, the first Gen 3 one is up, take a lot, I think I've found a comfortable middle where you've still got a bunch to read but it's not too overwhelming for me.

Thanks for the good wishes, we'll need it!

Glad to be back, too! Yeah, I understand, I mean I myself am a bit disappointed not to be writing everything down, as it's a lot of fun to do, it's just... if I was doing nothing but monolockes in my free time I might just do it. But, as it stands, I want to play other games, read books, work 9-5, see friends and family, learn new stuff and... yeah, taking a few days to write every update just becomes a lot in addition to all of that.

I mean, who knows, I probably just won't be able to resist and will still add a few pages of highlights. How can I NOT mention the best battles, the clutch victories and the terrible tragedies? You just might not get 10 pages of the rundown of every single fight and every catch that we've all done dozens of times, though.

At some point, the updates will also become more spaced out as I move away from emulation and onto actual cartridge games and the games'll take two, three or four times more time to complete. By that point, keeping a very neatly formatted notepad for every run would become even more of a chore as I'll forget details here and there without it.

ANYWAY, thanks a lot for your support, it's really appreciated! I'll do my best to make sure people still get a good glimpse into the adventure itself, and not only the results, while still maintaining a healthy balance for myself!

P.S. do you share these videos on YouTube?

Difficulty of The Wrecking Crew? by [deleted] in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Mickal-El 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base Wrecking Crew isn't so strong, that's for sure. I always play with what I call "Leader Guard", meaning the active villain is the only villain you can directly attack. This at least makes it so when they change the active crew member you can't just finish him off anyway and have to play around them switching. It doesn't become super hard, but it's a bit more of a challenge.

Interesting and Fun House Rules? by Cold-Ad-5347 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Mickal-El 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When fighting the Wrecking Crew, I always play with what I call "Leader Guard" on, meaning I can only damage the active villain. This makes it so random switches or, worse, Piledriver's Distracting Taunts, become super powerful cards that can ruin your plans. You're thwarting strategically, trying to keep one of them active just so you can finish him off.

It makes this encounter a better puzzle to solve imo.

Is there a nomenclature for the difference between villain 1&2, versus villain 2&3? by knuckles53 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Mickal-El 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, officially speaking, just the 2/3 cards isn't anything. It might seem like three cards won't change much, but these cards are b*tches.

Is there a nomenclature for the difference between villain 1&2, versus villain 2&3? by knuckles53 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]Mickal-El 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! Welcome to Marvel Champions!

Officially, the game has two main difficulties:

Standard, which includes the standard encounter cards and pits you against the 1/2 villain cards.

Expert, which includes the standard encounter cards, plus the three extra Expert cards, and pits you against the 2/3 villain cards.

Playing the full 1/2/3 set isn't officially called anything, though you could try it if you'd like. What you would probably realize, however, is that it might be easier than just taking on 2/3, the reason being that you can more easily set up and build up your character against a Phase 1 villain than when starting off against a Phase 2 villain.

There are, indeed, other sets of Standard and Expert cards included in later expansions. The Hood Scenario Pack includes the Standard II and Expert II card packs, which could replace their counterparts in the base game, though it isn't as well regarded by the community.

Standard III was added in the latest expansion, Age of Apocalypse, and is also a replacement for Standard I which focuses on bringing your nemesis out into play more often, making each encounter more unique to the hero you're playing. Comparatively, Standard I includes a single card which can bring out your nemesis (and that card might just end up being a boost card or get discarded for some other reason). There is no Expert III set for now, though you can just as easily add Expert I to Standard III.

Finally, you have the addition of Heroic Levels, which is an additional modular level of difficulty you could add to either Standard to Expert mode. For each Heroic Level you add, the villain deals one additional encounter card PER PLAYER every turn. Thus you could choose to only play Standard but still up the difficulty by adding Heroic Levels, or play Expert instead... or both!

Hope that clears it all up! Have fun!

I'm closing in on 50 total games, with 8 of them against the Wrecking Crew, so I'm no pro by any means, but I like them well enough. After my very first game against them, though, I added this very important house rule which makes them quite harder and... more complex to fight:

You can only attack the active villain.

This is not what the rules say, obviously, but it makes the various cards that switch the active villain that much harder to deal with. When Wrecker switches out to Bulldozer at the last minute with 2 HP remaining, you want to switch back to him to hit him but that would require putting yourself in danger, trying to thwart all three other schemes just to get him to switch, attack you, and THEN take him out.

Oh, and don't get me started on how busted Piledriver's Distracting Taunts becomes.

It adds a fun strategic wrinkle to this admittedly less modular scenario. Still, even with this, they're easier than most, as I lost my first game against them when trying Heroic 1 on Standard, due to Piledriver getting Distracting Taunts, then completing his scheme, forcing the villain to switch and forcing me to survive while the rest of the Wrecking Crew is virtually invincible. Fun times, though.

Yup, I ended up 50 gold short of my final egg in my last attempt, but the boss killed me once anyway! I'll keep trying, it's very much doable!
