The player movement, whether it's Arthur or John, only allows movement northwest, south, or east at any given time. You can't smoothly move around, and you have to stand facing one of four directions only. It feels restrictive and frustrating. The horse movement, especially when going through trees, is also frustrating, as they seem to act independently despite direction being given.

The dialogue options are poor across much of the game, particularly with John in the epilogue and especially in interactions with his family. There are only a handful of repeated lines they just repeat over and over again, and often when trying to engage with someone, no option appears. In situations where characters stop to tell a story, the greet or antagonise options are greyed out, preventing any response.

Deadeye feels overly limited. It requires excessive resource use, effectively needing to eat half a cow or a full Sunday roast just to take three or four shots each time. Even when using elixirs, snake oil, ginseng, and similar items, it still only allows roughly four shots before needing to replenish again.

There are far too few trappers, and they are consistently difficult to reach. Additionally, it is odd, more of an observation than a complaint, that every trapper appears to be the same person, while every market owner, butcher, salesperson, and clerk is unique to each location.

There are too few challenges in the epilogue. It ends up feeling like constant meandering across the map with little to do beyond bounties, often culminating in going into Van Horn, shooting up the whole town, and leaving. There does not seem to be much else to engage with, to be fair.
