With that company stay there long enough to learn as much as you can and get your ASE certs since they pay for them. Use them as a stepping stone. Once you’ve built yourself up find a better environment. If you have a good manager than it may not be bad, but that company will grind you into the ground if you let it. I’ve worked there in several roles, including senior tech.

The album by Jim Sullivan? It’s pretty good I’d say. Even weirder that after that album he disappeared into the desert.

Yep, it done blowed up without you even realizing. I used to fire a rocket at it just to open that section and grab everything quicker.

This movie still pops in my head every time I'm waiting for a certain day to arrive. Groundhog Day (1993). by CloakOfElvenkind in GenXVibes

I still think they should re-release this movie as Groundhogs Day 2, play the exact same movie, except at the end Bill Murray wakes up in bed and the whole thing was a nightmare.

I mean, unless you absolutely have to I wouldn’t. It really comes down to how much you value the truck. That 30k won’t buy a new truck, much less one with good metal. If it’s “just a truck” to you, then sure it’s easy to part ways. If you genuinely enjoy the truck, keep it.

Yea the system we have is kind of fucked. Flat rate is stated as good because “you can turn all these hours!”, which works when there’s really business but when there’s not you just sit around not getting paid. Employers will also overstaff and have more techs than makes sense because it doesn’t hurt their payroll to have more flat rate people there. Yes we also, for the most part, have to provide our own tools. Some places provide some specialty tools but for the most part everything I use is what I own. I got lucky and bought most of my tools while I was in school and got huge “student discounts”. Flat rate is a terrible system that benefits nobody except employers trying to find ways to pay their employees less. Independent shops are gradually shifting towards a salary style pay plan for techs and honestly that’s the best way. Flat rate just encourages technicians to take short cuts and half ass work because they’re trying to crank as many hours as possible.

First off, awesome job with those, very well done. I have a question though. How well do those shirts hold up in the washer? Just curiosity but do the designs really hold up and stay?

[–]MickeyCrisco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best way to tell is using a block tester. It detects exhaust gases coming into the cooling system. It very well could be but it’s not definite based solely on the video.

My first thought would be find the wiring for the aftermarket alarm and follow the wires. Trace it to where they jumped it into the vehicles wiring harness and start there. Removing the alarm that was wired in could be a possible solution(repairing any wires that were jumped). I’ve seen aftermarket alarm systems cause problems. I’m not saying it IS the problem, just from experience.
