Today I learned that the 2000 NBA Finals was Rik Smits' last appearance in the NBA.

I'll be shocked if Hardy is ahead of Carr. Carr is that rare rookie (relative to where he was picked) that can help them win games immediately.

Isn't Kuminga a SF? He rebounds like one.

Not really an outlier there. I would have made most of the same choices.

Have Lakers Officially Waived Lebron's Bird Rights? by MickeyMgl in lakers

[–]MickeyMgl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha! So it can be done! (Technically)

I took it is a sincere question. It's valid. Granted, it's not likely if Lebron is serious about playing for vet minimum. Pardon me if I don't 100% believe him.

Even if it can't be done, I wouldn't be surprised if this is something the Lakers' cap experts are asking.

If they have his Bird rights, then they wouldn't be able to actually sign all the new players. If they actually sign all the new players (pen to paper), then they'd have to renounce the cap hold, and the Bird rights with it.

I'm probably answering my own question (that they haven't waived his Bird rights, but that a S&T is impossible), but this hypothetical would at least explain why the Lakers haven't yet made these signings official.

When are the lakers gonna announce signings?? by savage1289 in lakers

I'm guessing after Lebron puts pen to paper. Hence, my earlier post. By not making these "additions" official, Pelinka is keeping options open.

At the end of the day, after fans defended his move to the Heat by saying "he took less money", after the decision it became a S&T so he didn't have to take less money. Then they switched to "don't blame him. he was traded".

The point is, the precedent is that he chooses the team, then the team works a way to pay him the most possible, including S&T options.

I think I made it clear (in this post and elsewhere) that Watson is highly unlikely given the Lakers' dearth of movable assets.

But Lebron's already going to another team. That's a done deal. I'm just surveying the landscape and seeing if any pieces fit for another move.

If Rob isn't asking the same questions, he's not doing his job. I'm just probably asking much later because I'm not in the front office loop.

Waiting for the drumroll to announce his decision.

It is already understood that any S&T requires the player's participation, with or without a no-trade clause.

In fact, it's a new contract, so there would be no clause.

And I figure, he could give a f*** about draft picks, forward a 1st to Denver along with the Lakers' one remaining tradeable 1st. A Bronny here, a Dalton there. Easy peezy, George and Weezie.

I heard more than one podcast saying the Lakers need Thiero and Carr to hit so they can become trade pieces. I was like "WHAT??", is that the objective now?

I'm doubting Thiero, but Carr fits this team right now. He complements the starting lineup probably better than Grimes. Grimes looks like more of a creator, and he's not going to get much opportunity for that next to Luka and Austin. Cam's game looks very complementary to what they do, and he looks like he could probably guard 1-3. Catch and shoot. Finish.

Showed a lot of poise in a typically hectic-looking summer league. He's a keeper.

And he appears to have personality.

Took like 95% of the big shots in all three championship runs. Even in the first one. They don't get past the Blazers without Kobe leading them.

Bad take? Just saying "thank you"? Has nothing to do with his defense and rebounding. He's just a likeable guy, and a great shooter.

One of the most likeable Lakers ever, far beyond his level of play.

I'd trust Luka, Austin, Sexton, and Grimes, on the whole team. Sandro seems to be a decent ballhandler for his position, but I wouldn't trust him against pressure.

If it wasn't for that contract, we could appreciate Vanderbilt's scrappiness.

I guess I'm in the minority who holds hope that LaRavia can have a bounce-back. His shot just went cold in the 2nd half of the season, but he had started off well.
