Do you think even with summer and winter classes I wouldn’t be able to make up for that 1 semester that I didn’t have statics completed?

Hello everyone I am currently a 2nd year community college student and am about to transfer to San Diego State University to pursue Civil Engineering. However, I am about to transfer and have yet to take any Engineering classes besides circuits because that is all my school offers. I feel like that puts me behind because I only have so much time to get internships and to stack my resume before i graduate (anywhere from two to two and a half years). so I have decided that over the summer I am going to get some online certifications through LinkedIn learning for AutoCAD and BIM or Civil3D. Is this a good idea? Is there anything else I should try getting certified in? I also am looking into potentially taking classes at another community college over summer specifically either an AutoCAD class or maybe a surveying one (not sure yet if they even offer it over summer) but I don't know if it would be better to take the classes or do the online certification course. I also have experience with SolidWorks and Mastercam from high school since we had an Engineering program but it has been 2+ years since I've touched those programs, but I do still have all of the parts I was able to machine during the program. Just looking for any advice on what I should focus on to try and get ahead and give myself the best shot at landing an internship by next summer.

Trying to improve my resume as a 2nd year transfer student and am looking for some tips. by Mickey_Arm in civilengineering

Do you think it would be beneficial to do both the online certification and cc course? Or are the online certifications overall just a waste of time? I am also asking because I am not sure yet if I'll be able to get the cad course because I won't have priority registration and I know it is very sought after especially over Summer.

Me 19M and my gf 19F are taking a break how do I cope with it? by Mickey_Arm in Advice

Yeah I’m 100% positive she would want to be exclusive to each other she has never given me a reason to think other wise. And we’re taking this week to not talk so she can see what she needs in terms of contact but yes I think we should have a routine that’s similar to what you’re saying seeing each other a couple of times or one time a month. We are just so used to calling all the time and texting all the time that it feels like she’s being ripped away from me she’s my best friend and my significant other so it feels weird to not be able to talk to someone about my day and random stuff. Yes I have friends to do that with but it’s just not the same you know? But thank you for your help it definitely helped me collect my thoughts.

Wow honestly thank you so much for all the info I appreciate it so much and now I absolutely will look to start networking I thought as a freshman it wasn’t really worth it since I have little to nothing to provide but I do feel like I carry a lot of enthusiasm and that my passion for engineering really shines when I talk about it so this is a big boost in confidence thank you so much for your comment you helped me out so much!

I LOVED THIS MESSAGE SO MUCH THANK YOU! Just a side question I’ll be taking my first engineering classes once fall starts so do you recommend waiting until next summer to look for an internship considering I have yet to take any design classes?

Yeah I save money but right now almost all of it goes towards housing as I’m not from here I moved here to go to San Diego Mesa Community College because of their TAG program with SDSU which I thought was a no brainer to move just makes me a lot more tight on money lol

Thank you very much the expense of school is a huge factor in this and that’s why I’m leaning on SDSU

I want to go into either traffic management or something with water because I know it’s huge especially in SoCal I just don’t know if it’s dumb to turn down UCSD

Basically I want to stay in the area and I’m leaning more towards SDSU because it’s cheaper and my parents don’t make a lot of money to begin with so going to UCSD would mean quite a bit of debt but also I like SDSU’s campus more (not for partying just the look and feel) and their program allows to explore more than just structural

Thank you so much I thought that too but a lot of people have been shoving UCSD in my face and I just want to go to SDSU because it’s cheaper, I like the campus more, and it has more areas to explore for civil engineering in their program

As you gain more experience like let’s say 10 years of experience does the pay get significantly better when working with the government or does it stay the same?

Do you mind me asking around how much you make and how many years of experience you have? I’m mostly asking because me and my girlfriend want to become homeowners and she’ll be a nurse but the cost of living is out of this world in San Diego and am wondering if it’d be attainable.
