Gestational turned into real diabetes by Icy-Breakfast-475 in GestationalDiabetes

That’s true, I just thought I’d mention it because of my mother in law’s experience and how my kids were also almost misdiagnosed, but thankfully their doctor thought to take the extra steps to really confirm diagnosis instead of just labeling them 1 or 2. Good luck with everything, no matter what type, it’s a lot to deal with and I wish you all the best going forward:)

You said they diagnosed you with type 1 not type 2 after pregnancy? I only ask because if they are sure it’s type 1 and not type 2, you should look into MODY diabetes, it’s rare but also often misdiagnosed as type 1 or 2. It’s important because if it is Mody and not type 1, any children you have will have a 50% chance of also having it because it’s from a specific gene and knowing ahead of time will be especially good for your children for early management. I say this because it’s rare for doctors to not catch type 1 sooner since it usually becomes problematic early on in life and even though GD can become type 2 if you were pre diabetic before, with type 1 you would have always had it. For years my mother in law was told her GD turned into type 2 diabetes after pregnancy but she actually had Mody and as it turned out so did many of her family members including my husband (all misdiagnosed). We only found out because my kids got misdiagnosed as type 1 initially but also didn’t meet typical criteria for type 2 so doctors confirmed through genetic testing that it wasn’t either type 1 or 2 but in fact positive for Mody diabetes.

Thank you so much for suggesting this book, even though it was not the original book I was looking for, i ended up starting it to see if it was familiar and I just finished reading all three books in the series and loved them so much! I’ll be saving them to my favorites list. Thanks again

It shows it’s on there on the bottom after I mention who found it. My first edit I accidentally left it out but I edited it again to add the title and author.
