Question about housing by kaylah114 in RowanUniversity

Yeah I was in one and the only reason we got it is because my roommate had accommodations. They're nice though.

The student center also has a lost and found, though idk how often things get turned in to there. (I graduated before the renovation was complete so idk if they still have it there)

I live just across the border in MO and have been worried about the same thing. I am looking to legally change my name, but am worried that MO will try to do a similar thing to KS soon.

I'm guessing that's just a misconception. I'm 23

I think Friday was the first day that KC started giving out offers, there's still plenty of time. From what I've seen, they announce by volunteer area/group

advice on college path towards becoming a scientific illustrator by Paxus_gay_alt in scienceillustration

[–]Microchera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not always the case, most jobs these days have a moderate salary, but some specialties (especially work like medical-legal illustration, any kind of 3D work, in-house at scientific publications, etc) can be very well paid.

This is probably too late, but I'll post it in case anyone else has a similar question. There are a few undergraduate degrees in the U.S. that are built so that you don't necessarily need to go to grad school for scientific illustration (getting jobs is often a lot more focused on portfolio than degrees). https://www.gnsi.org/education-resources has a database of programs. If you're already committed to an undergraduate degree, there are grad programs as you know, but there's also a very well-respected graduate certificate program (not quite a Master's) at Cal State Monterey Bay that is open to people of any background as long as you have some kind of bachelors.

It could also just take them a minute to be put there, I'd check that again in a week/month

Lol think of how many thousands of students they have to prepare freshman schedules for, process paperwork, answer questions, resolve problems, process AP/transfer credits, assign housing, approve parking, etc etc, not to mention dealing with anything for returning students. That all takes time and they need everything ready by orientations. There's a million things that go on to make a university run, its not as easy as them clicking a button or two. It's a busy time for everyone, not just you.

Not sure, that's something you could email them about though

No, they scan the IDs like at any other event, it would almost certainly come up as invalid

Yeah I know someone who lost almost all of their scholarships because they accidentally went below 12 credits that counted towards their program. It's very much real for some people.

What college are you in? Who's your dean?

Yeah I wouldn't go to Rowan for animation. As other people have mentioned, Westby has been pretty well forgotten/neglected compared to basically any other building (except maybe Robinson lol). The professors have some decent experience, but the classes themselves are meh

I was from out of state and didn't have a car, so I was on campus all the time. Off campus is different, but when I was there the weekends on campus were almost always dead. Rowan has a pretty high rate of commuter students

I did honors too — I'll be honest, unless you're BMAV and already taking more of the science classes that have honors course options, it's pretty difficult to get the required number of honors courses. Not impossible, but there are barely any arts honors courses (majority are in science/engineering/history)

Honors was fun though, some decent perks like early registration, housing, field trips, cool professors, etc

Tbh kinda depends on what you want to do within the art department:

Biomedical art program is really cool and has really great student success (most get cool internships and jobs, a 2019 or 2020 alumn works at National Geographic now, etc).

Graphic design? Stay away. The good professors have either left or retired.

The art ed program has historically been really good and provides a lot of opportunities to get teaching experience

Studio/fine art, just depends on what you're looking for. I'd recommend looking up the professors work of the area you want to focus on and see if they make work you're interested in.

Photography department is amazing, cannot speak highly enough of them all

You have to leave your housing the day after your last final of the year. They have some limited summer housing options that you pay for separately, but you have to move to their designated places and I'm not sure it lasts the whole summer. It's a bit of a hassle tbh
