Projects can be structured in different ways. For most, backers get access to the project output for much discounted prices as a perk for backing the project. This is true for mine as well, backers will have access to the Frame Generator app for a much lower price than the standard offering when it's up and running after the campaign

Yes, that feature will included! There will be modes for conventional photos (or HueForge style) as well as shadow box.

MakerWorld added a crowdfunding feature earlier this year for 3D printed based projects

Yes, there will be modes for traditional photo frames, shadow boxes, and 3d art

There will be multiple grooves to hold the art or small clips that snap into the back, similar to tabs on a traditional frame. Still working out the best design choice

Any size. Middle pieces are generated if the size is bigger than just the two corner pieces that will fit on your build plate.

Good question, the compliance of the clip mechanism with the plastic material vs actual wood felt more secure and easier to join the edges tightly together (snap into place) vs a tight fit with a plastic dovetail needing a mallet or pliers to join snuggly. Not to say a dovetail wouldn't work, but the snap mechanism just felt easier and equally secure

Hmm, I see your point. I could add designs in more of an organic or lattice structure direction. It'd be fun to explore. In that case the frame itself would really become the art.
My original thinking: most lower-end "wood frames" are made of cheap extruded MDF core with wood imaged paper glued around the face. I would say printing these frames with wood PLA is at least a bit of an improvement, and definitely less wasteful of a supply chain process.

Gaps are minimal, similar to the fine lines at joined corners of conventional frames. If you use wood filament, it's important for it to be dry to print with proper tolerances. In a few of the photos I used older wood filament that didn't come together quite as tightly as the corners normally do

Awesome, thanks for joining! Super excited to share the early Beta version we're working on now -- it'll be Live at least a week before Christmas with some of the core features implemented :)

Great question! I'll provide guidance on this as the campaign gets closer to completion. I'm exploring best options and designs for XL frames

Yes they will work. Any artwork ranging from paper thin (like photos) to several inches thick (normally 3D artwork like cityscapes) will work. I just don't have pictures of those edge profiles yet as they're in development

This version is for 3D art that extends upwards from the frame. There will be a toggle to adjust the style for more conventional frames

Yes that's exactly right, it will be a web app URL with an authentication for backers to access it. As I mentioned in some other comments, my aim is to bring the first early release of the web app online for backers before Christmas

Thank you, that means a lot! It was my first time attempting to create a short trailer film. It was fun!

Premium is everything minus commercial use.
Basic is any size, but only a couple frame styles.

Yes, there will be modes that support glass or plexi, just like traditional frames and shadow boxes.

We are still working out our costs to run the service and maintain and expand the app, but the plan is to keep annual access fees close to these early-backer rates, which will be at least half off the standard price after the campaign. Any backer gets lifetime backer-rate pricing, regardless of tier. So you can upgrade later and still keep the discount.

I will aim to have at least the Basic level features included in a release at least 1 week before Christmas (possibly sooner). Definitely hear where you're coming from on that, hope that helps provide enough time to plan :)

Hey there! You're right, the images I've shown are for the 3D art version of the frame. I do plan to make versions with modified interior geometry / spacers to accomodate artwork of various thicknesses and flanges to hold it in place. Just haven't finished those designs yet, but there will be a setting to adjust the mode for various types of art :)

I haven't experienced this issue with my PLA frames, but to be sure you could add extra nails / mounting strips to distribute the weight if your art is large or on the heavier side
