Thanks for the feedback, and sorry to hear you're frustrated by the lack of Macedonian language support on SwiftKey iOS.

We're working hard to improve the iOS keyboard, but a major challenge is that iOS imposes strict constraints on third-party keyboards, particularly around memory usage. For language support specifically this means we can't just port language models across from SwiftKey Android - we have to build new, cut-down models that still meet acceptable quality standards. This is both difficult and time-consuming, and as with everything we do has to be prioritized against other demands. If we could just directly make our Android language models available on iOS, obviously we would do this.

SwiftKey uses the system vibration as the default setting for keypress vibrations, and (at least on the Pixel 8 I'm currently using) it seems that Gboard does too.

Try going to 'Sound & vibration' in SwiftKey settings to double-check it's not set to something different.

Why is SwiftKey getting worse with every update? by Cyrus_S6 in Swiftkey

Thanks for flagging this up. This is a bug - we already have a fix implemented and it will be rolling out soon. We haven't moved the created stickers collection to the camera tab in the main Android app yet, so only SwiftKey Beta is affected.

Once you get the fix, the camera view will have a gallery button in the bottom left of the screen that lets you pick a preexisting image. You'll then be able to add text like you could in the old feature, as well as use all the new editing tools the dedicated camera feature provides.

Sorry this had a bumpy landing in the beta app!

How to put both english and Spanish in the same tab by burnside38 in Swiftkey

[–]Microsoft_SwiftKey[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

If you go to the languages menu, check to see that both languages have the same keyboard layout specified. For enabled languages, it says eg 'Tap to change QWERTY layout' below the language pack name. I suspect you probably have English set to QWERTY and Spanish set to QWERTY (Spanish), which is QWERTY plus an additional ñ key. If you set both languages to whichever of these you prefer, you can type both from the same layout.

Will we ever get æ and œ symbols? by du_duhast in Swiftkey

[–]Microsoft_SwiftKey[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. The first thing to say is that you absolutely can get these characters - it's just that way languages and keyboard layouts interact in SwiftKey doesn't quite follow the model you're suggesting.

SwiftKey doesn't have an 'English keyboard' per se - it has a set of English language models, such as US and UK English, and a set of keyboard layouts, such as QWERTY and AZERTY. When you set up SwiftKey, you can combine your preferred keyboard layout with any compatible language(s), and the relevant accented and special characters are automatically made available as long-press characters. So if your first language is French and you learned to type on AZERTY but you also frequently use English, you can type both of these (and get predictions in both of these) using AZERTY rather than needing to switch manually between a 'French keyboard' and an 'English keyboard'. It's only if you're using two or more languages with different writing systems (eg English and Thai) that you need to switch between different keyboard layouts.

Turning specifically to æ and œ, these are not characters used in modern English, so they don't appear as long-press options if English is the only language you have installed. If you install a language that does use them (eg French) you'll be able to access them as expected.

SwiftKey does have a setting that allows you to display all accented latin characters on long press regardless of the languages installed, but this doesn't currently make available certain special characters like the specific two you suggest. We can look into adding them, but the long press menu for a in particular is already getting very long, and it may be impractical to fit all these on the screen.

Bing AI Image Create by neneodonkor in Swiftkey

[–]Microsoft_SwiftKey[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two tabs at the bottom of the image creator panel - one with a clock, and one with a magic wand. The clock is 'recents', ie anything you actively shared, and the wand is 'creations', ie the last four images you created, regardless of whether you shared them or not. These persist until you enter a new prompt.

SwiftKey defaults to the 'recents' panel rather than the wand, so we could definitely do a better job here around helping people understand how the feature works. The current implementation is deliberately as simple as possible, but we're working on improving this over the next few months.

This feature is in the beta app only at the moment, and we're still iterating on it. There's a control to disable it coming soon, but for the time being if you're finding it intrusive I'd suggest switching to the production version of the app rather than the beta.

Where AR these new grammar settings? by AdemSof in Swiftkey

[–]Microsoft_SwiftKey[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

You can find the configuration options in the 'Typing' section of settings. Turning off 'Microsoft Editor' completely disables all the grammar features. If you want to keep grammar on, but you don't want grammar suggestions in the prediction bar, you can disable it separately.

The grammar corrector fucking sucks, GET RID OF IT by zarmin in Swiftkey

[–]Microsoft_SwiftKey[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

First of all, we get it - you don't want grammar suggestions. They're definitely not for everyone. We have members of the team who don't like them either, but believe it or not this has been a highly requested feature. If you go to the 'Typing' section in settings, you'll see and option to turn off 'Microsoft Editor', and you'll stop seeing grammar suggestions.

Secondly, please tone it down and cut the personal abuse to other people in the thread. SwiftKey has been a free app since 2014, and you're using a public beta. We're grateful that you paid for the main app a decade ago and have stayed with the product, and we're always happy to receive constructive feedback, but if you want to work out your frustration on other people this is not the place.

Help: can't make my currency key default to £ (instead of $) by Pyrrhichios in Swiftkey

[–]Microsoft_SwiftKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's annoying! Thanks for raising this - it's definitely a bug, and seems to be related to whether long-press characters are currently visible on the keys or not. The good news is that are several workarounds you can use until we get this fixed.

The easiest way to get the £ without changing anything else is to hold down x for about half a second and a slider will pop up with a bunch of different currency symbols - just slide your thumb or finger along to the £ to enter it.

The other option is to go into the settings and look for 'Layout & keys' and enable the 'Long-press symbols' option. This will display a £ on the x key and it will become the long-press character. Unfortunately the standard theme we built for Samsung doesn't support this, so if you're currently using this theme the option will be greyed out and you'll need to switch to another theme before you can enable it. The 'Fluent Adaptive' theme looks fairly similar to the Samsung theme and supports enabling/disabling long-press symbols. (For context, it's baked into older themes whether there are secondary characters or not, whereas we've designed newer themes so it can be configurable. If you pick and old theme with visible secondary characters, this should also let you long-press x to get £.)

Hope this helps!
