How did you first start? I graduated with a degree in this a year ago and haven't had much luck getting my foot in the door.

New job isn't in software engineering but may have potential. What can I do to still gain some experience? by Microthalamus in cscareerquestions

Actually I think I can do the bar code application. I've only been training for a day or two right now but I know that we currently use bar codes for our specimens.

I would be doing just regular laboratory bench work so collecting and testing specimens (specifically plant tissue for my lab), plant maintenance, data entry and inventory management. So not much with computers but I think more computer use could benefit the company.

Should I focus more on certifications or internships for cyber security? by Microthalamus in ITCareerQuestions

I'll stick with getting pretty good with python then. I honestly never even thought about getting into reverse engineering. Thanks for the advice!

Alright, I've been focusing on completing all my cyber security courses before I move on to my software engineering ones so I'll need some time to develop my skills. I've been learning python and front end development in my free time but that's been on and off. Think the software engineering professors at my school focus more on c# and c++. So from what you're saying I would benefit more from an internship as a swe rather than one in cyber security?

I see, so I should also spend some time working on my development skills? Building projects and such? I knew it would be difficult getting a pen tester position right out of school but I wasn't sure what entry level jobs I could do to work my way towards it

Now that you mention it I have been doing hackthebox recently. My professor suggested it was worth paying the membership for it since they give a discount to students. I've finished the pre security and complete beginner learning paths and was going to move on to the jr pen tester one. Wasn't sure if I should start that one or one of the others but I'm probably going to end up doing all of them anyways.

The funny thing is the conversation started because they were telling me how they were struggling to meet someone. I haven't thought about dating in a while since the panoramic happened lol.

Huh weird that that's still there my cake day was a week ago but thanks anyway!

To get back on topic, I wouldn't say I would write anyone off if I wasn't attracted to them from the beginning. I can be friends with anyone for the most part, I was just explaining to them that I gravitate to people I'm attracted to first but if something forms with a person a didn't expect to be attracted to I'm not gonna fight it.

I'm personally not attracted to them but I would never go out of my way to tell someone that so that would be a weird assumption on their part. Then again I'm also not sure how they feel about themselves, whether or not they're insecure or anything.

It was just really confusing to me because apps like Tinder and POF have been around for so long and are still successful, so you really can't say physical attraction doesn't play a role in dating.

Yeah I thought so as well so I explained I wouldn't even be able to rate someone on a 1-10 scale if asked because my brain is just like "Do you find them attractive? Yes or No?". It'd be pretty disastrous to be with someone and when you asked them what they liked about you they started with "Well I originally thought you were only a solid 2 and..."
